I have an ~5 year old Vertex 2 which suddenly stopped showing in the bios. Reading around, apparently this was a common problem, with the "sandforce bug" mentioned.

My question is whether there's any way to recover the drive and / or flash the firmware. If I connect a jumper to the pins on the rear of the drive, I can make it show up in Windows (on another computer), but can't do much with it.

Or should it simply be binned ...

It only shows up in "manufacturers mode" by connecting the jumper at the back. Can't actually do anything useful with it in that mode - tried formatting, but it just reverts to it's original state once disconnected and reconnected. With the jumper removed, it still refuses to show up.

Thought this may have been a common occurrence and an easy fix. I've already bought a replacement, so will just bin this.
