Hi Guys

I've just purchased and built my new rig using an Abit IP35 Pro and OCZ Platinum PC2 6400C4 2 gig kits. (2 kits so 4gb in total). The problem I have is this memory is rated at 4-4-4-15 but I cant get it to run at anything below 5-5-5-15. The system will boot but fails an Orthos blend test within seconds. At the higher timings it passes with out any problem (over a 30 min test anyhow). I've upped the dimm voltage to 2.1 but this has had no effect. I'm using a Q6600 at stock speeds and running vista 64.

Being a relative noob in these matters is there anything else I can set which may help?

Cheers

Firstly, Welcome to the forums.

What speed are you running these at? If you are using the Q6600 at stock, it maybe that the memory ratio is 2/3 and running at the full 800MHz.

According to the SPD, the timings for 800Mhz are 5-5-5-15 so it maybe that your memory is running at the maximum frequency.

Thanks for your quick reply. I've just checked and yes it running at 272 with a multiplier of 9 and the ram divider set to 2/3 so memory is at 816.
So at this speed does that mean the timings have to be 5-5-5-15? I only set them originally to 4-4-4-15 as thats what it said on the sticker on the modules.

Would I actually see any real world benefit from these timings anyway, I us my rig mainly for gaming.

Then this looks ok to me. You woudn't notice any any difference tbh.. I have no idea why they quote 4-4-4-12 because the SPD for 800MHz is 5-5-5-15.. ?? I guess the rating is on the assumption of 266MHz CPUs at 1:1?? ie 533Mhz.
