Hi, unsure of where to put this post but my mum's cd player is playing up, i bought her a coldplay album a while ago, and suddenly it stops reading it, and just clicks and clicks and clicks without doing anything, she bought a new one same problem, other cd's work perfectly some just sit there clicking for a few seconds then stops, no sound. Its clean or it wouldn't play other cd's and including some brand new ones she brought recently they dont work either, is it a cleaning issue or just the CD player showing its age ( although its not old at all ). Thanks in advance.

It's possibly a lens issue, where it is slightly out of position, so the focal point isn't quite in the track for some disks (Coldplay), but is just in the track for others.

Old (or cheap) Cd players... try a lens cleaner, if that doesnt work, its probably cheaper to toss it away and buy a new cd player, than try and get it repair. If the player has been used a lot, there is a fair chance that the laser diode is starting to dim (they dont last forever). Its possible that the disks which click are "non red-book" copy protected disks, and these are harder for CD players to read (and are more prone to skipping on scratches too)
