Please can you help

Just given my pc a clean , took out sound card + graphics card . Put all back together then turned pc back on and had this error

CMOS-CHECKSUM ERROR - DEFAULTS LOADED

I pressed F1 to contionue

Windows loaded as normal , checked pc then i found that the clock was showing 0.00 , reset clock then reboot as normal then booted as normal back to desktop , now all is working as normal

Why did this happen ? anybody with a answer ?

Motherboard battery may be running low, is your computer rarely turned off at the mains (even if switched off at the case)?

I just shutdown then that is , i never turn off from the psu switch or mains switch , i will from now , so its not a major problem with the computer ? and can i get a replacement battery ?

What i have also notice is when you right click with the mouse and you go into Display Properties , 2nd drop down and change the color scheme to silver , the screen goes black & and white for around 10 seconds maybe less then turns the color scheme to silver , is thie normal ?

I had this problem just before i got my new rig, i use to turn it off at the mains all the time. My ABIT AN7 mobo died just after i put this one together, i ended having to buy a new mobo (asrock). I did try putting a new battery in but it didnt help. :( gl

Sounds like the battery is low as said.

Go into the bios and setup the clock, if it resets again you need a new battery, its also clearing your bios settings to. No problem if you defaults i guess but still a pain right?

Last time i checked bios batteries were a set size. I've always pinched batteries out of broken or old boards that i chuck.

If you have MM access, make a post in the Wanted section, sure someone has a spare battery they can send out.

P.S. My pc stays on pretty much 24/7, i'm yet to replace the battery on this one.

i done a reboot as normal and clock has stayed the right time , i guess its best to buy a spare battery , do OcUK sell them ? , if not the bay might :)

It is no problem not turning it off at the mains (providing you don't get a big power surge over night :p) but what it means is that your board would have still been getting power. Hence when you then disconnected the PC from the mains to clean it and relied on the battery to remember the settings, it had forgot them when you booted up again.

The battery may have been borked for a long time but you only noticed it now since you always kept power to the board via the mains, make sense? :)

Given out all my spares over the last few months.......

Can always tell when people say "My clock the PC keeps resetting every time i turn it on"....... i give them a battery and say fit this when the PC is off.....

Suffice to say, it doesnt get brought up again, so i'm assuming the batteries work out for them.

Might be cheaper (or maybe not) to find a faulty board for sale and pinch the battery from it (if it works out cheaper).

You could just try re-seating the battery.

Normally when the battery goes it'll reset after every boot. If it does it every now and then it could be an incorrect bios setting thats forcing the bios to reset.
