Odd Flickering - 5850

Hi,

When I load up certain games (Only tested with 3) I tend to get an odd flickering whilst playing, normally distortion of the game itself but also vertical and horizontal lines.

Had a similar problem before which re-seating the card seemed to fix. The distortion seems random, can flicker maybe 1-2 times in 5mins and other times can be almost constant flickering.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I think the problem is due to the gpu not seating properly, lay it on its side and its fine. Stand it up and the picture goes.

I have a similar prob with my power color 5850.

Runs perfect on stock clock setting but when I overclock it and set it to say 800 / 1115 as example (one on many I have tried) it will flicker on loading screens and menu's when gaming, but fine when playing the actual game.

Is it down to bad drivers?

Sounds like a 2d downclocking issue to me Wise Bat - do you use dual monitors by any chance?

You probably need to set up a custom 2D profile (in MSI Afterburner or suchlike) with higher than normal clock speeds for 2D (e.g 400/600) my powercolor 5850 uses speeds of 157/300 in 2D which I'm pretty sure is the cause of this problem.

Well I would say I dual monitor as such! Use the card plug into a 20" for gaming etc.. and the 32" for movie watching in the room.

So the 32" is off when gaming via the extend to desktop option on the ati symbol.

I will look into MSI Afterburn as never used it and the 2D thing you mentioned.

Thanks.
