Odd hard drive behaviour

Hi all, justa tad worried, My hard drive 2 weeks ago had 40GB Of free space, I rebooted it and it said 30GB Free, and gradualy it is getting lower and lower, now its at 15.4GB and not 10 mins ago it was 17GB.... I am not installing, downloading anything etc, so im not sure whats going on, im losing space, but not using it, the origioional size of the drive stays in tact but the unused and used space....

have you tried doing a disk cleanup, defrag etc? also try a hdd diagnostic tool as it might tell you if your hdd is duff?

did you drop it, its posible the reader is actually scratching as it is reading, i.e making your hdd useless, also run spyware, i once have seen a program that just installs loads of .txt files into a hidden folder, there not big .txt files, but it copys and pastes them QUICK, so you hdd would soon fill up
