odd issue with new memory

I've just added another 1GB to my 2GB of Corsair 800mhzC4 and I seem to be getting some odd issues when Vista 32 boots up.

I seem to be getting quite a long pause at the "Welcome" screen then sometimes I get another long pause where the taskbar is visible but the rest of the screen is purple and the system is unresponsive.

It also takes quite a long time for the side bar to load and for me to be able to start apps.

Once it has been through this everything runs as it did before.

(I have run memtest etc and all seems ok with the new memory. In fact my dual boot of XP does not do this so it must be a Vista issue)

I realise having more memory means vista will load more prefetch data etc but the increase in boot up time is disproportional.

Any ideas?

You're going to take a performance hit for memory as you're no longer running in dual channel mode due to the 3rd stick of ram.
Remove it and see if your startup time increases.

Funnily enough I tracked down the cause of the problem and it's ZoneAlarm Security - altough it is Vista compatible a lot of people seem to be having similar problems with boot-up times.

(I installed it just before I put the new memory in - goes to show it's better just to change one thing at a time!!)
