Odd problem - overclocked Q6600, Crysis *too fast*

thats odd lol

althrough I do know a game that likes doing that a lot, funny as hell when it does it particularly on hardest difficulty!

Painkillier that game is, it likes losing its frame rates lock. done it to me a few times with a q6600 overclocked in mid battle!

I'd like to add that the framerate is probably normal - I'm not getting super high fps or anything (although it's not bad). The problem is that the action moves too fast. For example, in the opening scene on the aircraft before they all jump off, Prophet walks back and forth slightly too quickly, so that he doesn't manage to finish his dialogue (which plays at normal speed) before the next bit of speech kicks in.

I'm off now to power up the PC and see if I can get to the bottom of this.

Cheers all.

OK - problem solved, I think. There's a setting in the MSI BIOS called 'Multi-step OC booster', which can be set to off, Mode 1 or Mode 2. It apparently applies overclocked settings at some point after POST, which I suppose is meant to enhance stability. I had it set to Mode 2, but switching it to Mode 1 eliminated the problem.

I hope my experiences will help someone else. Thanks very much everyone.

Damn MSI, just when im deciding whether or not to buy one of their new boards hahaha.

Ginga how do you find your MSI board?

I had this problem with the Q6600 when OC'd running on a x8 or x7 multi - GTA3 and san andreas would run approx. 60x faster than normal... which was hilarious but odd.

Heard of this problem with some FPS games, on launch of the game it would detect the CPU at idle speeds and with speedstep on and base the game timer on that, on load the CPU would go to full power and skew it right up, sounded like a similar thing here.

Agreed.

Ben90: Despite the problem with the OC booster, I'm pretty happy with the board. It OCed by Q6600 to 3.2GHz effortlessly at stock volts. The board is good and stable, and stock performance was decent. I have a 4890 in my rig and I'm currently pulling about 17K 3DM06. I've no regrets about buying the board, and the Zalman cooler that came with it is doing a good job, I think (at 3.2GHz: 34C idle/50-55C load). It's available pretty cheap at the moment too. All that said, my last mobo was blinking awful, so that might be making me look more favourably on the MSI. Hope this helps though.
