I bought the Isle of Dogs on DVD, it stuttered. I tried two different drives on one computer, tried it on a laptop and also tried it on another PC. It stuttered on all of them. The stuttering seemed to be in random places in the film.

I tried it with VLC, media player and some other random dvd player I downloaded. It stuttered on all of them.

No other dvd I have ever played stutters. I changed the dvd for another one, it also stuttered.

I installed windows on all the machines, is there something that I have done wrong? I dont know much about codecs so I cant really comment on them.

Anyone got even the slighest idea what is going on? Could I have been unlucky enough to have got 2 bad dvds? It seems very unlikely.

I dont have any other device to try playing the dvd on.

Few years ago I bought Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray and tested it for first 10 mins worked fine then I ejected it and swapped it with GTA IV disc to played GTA IV, dropped the disc on GTA IV box. Later late night I quitted GTA IV to watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens but I noticed it was shuttered, odd it was worked fine earlier in the day and I ejected it and looked at the back of disc and noticed some dusts on it!

I put the disc on CD cleaner kit with a few drops of CD cleaner solution to cleaned the Blu-ray disc removed all the dusts off, put the disc in drive and played from start again worked fine with shuttered gone. :)

Mine was a brand new dvd from the packet. I checked for dust and it was clean :D

Something else odd is that I just managed to watch it stutter free on a PS4. So whats the difference between all my PC's and a PS4? Its going to really bug me now. Just this one film.

The only different with your PC DVD drives is 8+ years old and probably not updated firmware since you bought it and PS4 Blu-ray drive is probably 4 years old with latest firmware updates.

It worth a try to flash DVD drives firmwares to latest version to see if it will fix shuttering.

You will need to download and install VSO Inspector on all devices:

https://www.vso-software.fr/products/inspector/inspector.php

On device features tab, you will find all your DVD drives model name and firmware versions.

Give me the list of your DVD drives model names and firmware versions so I can find out if there are latest firmwares for it.

Just ran VSO Inspector and checked firmware update for my Pioneer BDR-S09XLT, my current firmware version is 1.34 and surprised to see there is a new firmware 1.51 released last month on Pioneer Japan site for Pioneer BDR-S09XLT, not bad for 4 years old drive.

Just flashed my drive to new firmware version 1.51, restarted PC and VSO Inspector detected new firmware 1.51 and recognised Star Trek Beyond Blu-ray disc. All good! :)
