Having strange problems with my pc, basically it was on this morning and I put it to sleep and went out, came back later and woke it up, all the fans started spinning but the lights on the front just flashed and nothing happened so I held the power button and switched it back on again. Fans would spin but no post beep, I started disconnecting things, when I unplugged the 2 graphics power connectors I got a beep, I got an old card out the cupboard and dropped it in, computer worked fine, so I thought my graphics card had died. I when to the purple shirt place and managed to pick up another 5850 on clearance for £80. When I got home my pc had the same fault on the old graphics card.

So now I know it's not the graphics card. Maybe the PSU is down on power? But seems strange as right now the new 5850 is in and I'm running, just don't know how long for, or if it would wake from sleep again.

I did a bios reset already and tried removing my RAM and sound card.

Anyone got any other ideas?

System spec is

Core i7 920
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
6Gb OCZ Blade
Asus 5850
Asus Xonar D2X
Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 850w
Silverstone Fortress case

Thanks

Sounds suspiciously like the PSU might be failing... But you wouldnt think so for 850w. If you haven't already... Try pushing all of the connections to things in tighter and also try loading optimized defaults from BIOS.

Failing that... I'm lost.

Funny thing is it's been up and running non stop since that post, played a game and watched a film without a glitch.

But I can't think of anything else it could be besides PSU, expensive thing to buy to find out though.

Not long after I made that post something clicked in my machine and windows aero turned off, very odd.

System running again today with no problems, gave it a full internal dusting.

I might throw both graphics cards in today to try crossfire and really load the PSU.

Also just checked my PSU warranty, purchase date 15/08/08 and it had 3 years warranty. Just typical if the PSU is failing now, less than 1 month out of warranty.

Well I put the second 5850 in and I set my over clock back.

Now running 4Ghz with crossfire 5850 and it's totally stable.

During my overclocking it did fail to post once, not sure if that was the overclock or the problem arising again.

Still no idea what caused it.

Well I had about a week of trouble free usage, then I had the occasional first time post problem, last night however it was a none starter, I tried everything, pretty sure my PSU is fine. I think its a motherboard problem.

I have ordered an Asus P6X58D-E, will see how it runs with the new motherboard.

Anyone know Asus mobo warranty period? It's just over 2 years old.
