Hey guys, I'm really hoping somebody can help me fix this rogue problem which has only surfaced yesterday.
I'l give you guys a brief run down. My computer is pretty much left on 24/7, infact it has only really be down for about 30 minutes this year. Anywho yesterday I shut it down for half an hour so I could replace the cooling fan on the PSU, because the bearings had collapsed. The job went fine with no complications.
Anywho I restarted my computer and all was well. However after about 15 minutes into the Windows session an errror message came up onto the screen....
Now after this message is displayed and I have gone through all the rubbish of accepting it, I appear to loose sound. Well most of it...
I can hear Windows sounds, for example the sounds you get during start-up and shut-down, but I canne hear sounds from say iTunes, PowerDVD, and Windows Media Player actually comes up with an error saying unable to find sound card. Check its not already in use and check the drivers.
Now if I head back to the sound options as seen in that screenshot, instead of saying AC'97, it just says (None). So naturally it cannot see the onboard sound.
Now to my knowledge I hav'nt made any software modifications. This problem does indeed seem rather serious and I am expecting the response to be 'Reinstall Windows'. But considering all the stuff I have on this installation that would take days. I am really hoping somebody could shed some light.
My system specs are as followed...
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ @ 2.8Ghz Overclocked.
Ak32A Shuttle Mobo
1.5Gbs RAM @ 333Mhz (PC2700)
HIS Hightech ATi 800 XT PE
AC'97 Audio Codec. (Onboard)
Windows XP Pro with SP2.
Thanks ever so much in advance.
