I'm sorry for spawning another Avatar related thread, but I'm going to see Avatar tomorrow and need to decide where to go!

The local Odeon is a fifteen minute drive away and costs £10.80 per ticket, however, the somewhat less local Vue cinema is about fourty five minutes away but costs a mere £9.

Is there a substantial difference in the quality of the 3D cinematic experience? I think I'm opting towards the Odeon at the moment, but would delight in being imparted more information.

Thank you! :)

Varies from cinema to cinema, all depends how a particular cinema has set up the screen and projector.

However there are only 2 types of 3D technology in cinemas at the moment (RealD and Dolby 3D, I think Vue and Odeon both use RealD) and they are pretty much on par if the screen is set up properly so for example an Odeon in London could be better than a Vue in London but in say Manchester it could be the other way round.

edit/ in your case I'd go to the Odeon since you save money on fuel :p

Thank you for that. I just looked on the RealD website and both of the cinemas I could go do are indeed RealD. I think I prefer the Odeon experience as well, so will probably end up going there.

Thank you! :D

I havent been to a Vue cinema before but...

I often have to choose between Cineworld and Odeon, and on my last trip to the Cineworld it occured to me how pin sharp and excellent it's screens were. The next day i went to the odeon, and it was shockingly poor. Now i notice it every time i go.

Might be localised to Chelmsford, but it's regular screens suck, so i dont hold much hope for the 3D shows.

I'd choose vue.Odeon screens are,in my experience, quite old and outdated.
I saw avatar at a vue cinema last night and it was stunning.

Completely depends on location.

During the film festival I saw a lot of films at the Vue in LS, Meh cinema was alright.

The Odeon across the road though :O (1600 seater) was fantastic!

I live near a cineworld and an Odeon complex in Hertfordshire and the cineworld always plays films at terribly low volumes and the lights are so bright I can see other people's faces clear as day from the other side of the cinema. The Odeon on the other hand is fantastic.

When we went to see Up in 3D, before they gave us the glasses they asked if we were going to sit at the front, in the middle, or the back, whats the idea behind that? I didn't overtly notice her giving us a different set of glasses depending on what I said. Is it better to sit further away or closer anyway?
