Hi all,

I am looking to buy a pc in the coming days, and am agonising as to whether to go with the:

ODIN I7 TI AIR

• 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE 3200MHz

• 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3070 Ti

• 2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA HDD

• 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2

Or

Both similar costs, with upgraded cooling on the cooling etc.

Just looking for some guidance!

Thanks!

Thanks Tetras, the issue is that the MB isn't as good, smaller PSU and worse cooling and RAM than the other one.

Can I ask you, what will the new release of the new gen chipsets mean? Will the current gen be cheaper? Or will they become obselete?

If the system is a prebuild (don't mention competitors here), then the warranty should cover you, in so far as, running at stock. So, if you're just gaming I wouldn't worry about it. In other words, if they fit a puny PSU and it blows up, or can't run the 3070 Ti without shutting down, then they'll have to replace it.

The PSU and cooling would have to be really bad to make me step down from a 12700K and 3070 Ti to a 12600K and 3060 Ti. There's hundreds of pounds difference between those two specs.

Zen 4 and 13th gen will probably make Zen 3 and 12th gen cheaper, yeah, but it is also possible they just stop stocking them. From what I've seen, the market is currently oversupplied of most components, so I'd lean towards either price drops or delayed releases. For example: it is rumoured that nvidia has a vast oversupply of high-end and midrange cards and plans to delay (except perhaps the 4090) until 2023.

The psu is a cx 650 in the Odin build while it isnt a poor decision it could have been better. Intel chips arent usually bothered by ram speeds like AMD,s chips are so 3200 mhz is fine.

This is my build for £1800 from OCUK parts in stock. 12700k and 3070ti is definatly the way to go.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,816.79 (includes delivery: £0.00)

You could save money and buy a cheaper case and add a 3080 which is about 27% faster than the 3070ti.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £764.94 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Obviously no warrenty and you will need to source windows yourself (about a tenner) and build it yourself or ask OCUK to custom build it for you but again adding more cost to the build.

If you dont want to wait for am5 etc, have you considered building yourself. The below was just a quick put together from ocuk

Stayed with a 12600k as 12700k 62% more expensive for not a great deal uplift in fps on av. Also stayed with a decent mobo as you were concerned with that.
Put a 2tb gen4 sn850 so gives you plenty of storage and you can ditch the rust spinner. Also faster than the gen3 drives in prebuild
A 850w psu with 10yrs warranty
240 aio, more than enough for 12600k
32gb ram, no fuss but good enough
Replaced the 3070ti with a 3080 12gb(sits between 3080 10gb and 3080ti for performance) model which will give you a bigger uplift in games then the 12700k v 12600k. The extra 4gb cram should help for longevity also.
You could save money by going 6800xt for £600 as an alternative...loose out on ray tracing and dlss, also not as good codec for streaming, otherwise gaming beats a 3070ti..6750xt beats also but only just, but another option

Think this is cheaper than the prebuild you mentioned, and building can be fun
