Hello everyone, bit help or pointing in the right direction required.

Parents have a Packard Bell PC (problemo numero 1) and needed a format. Of course few months back I put a new hard drive in, so recovery discs can't find the hidden partition (ya know, the one that doesn't exist) and as much as I've tried getting back onto the hard drive I'm getting no where. The PC has an OEM sticker on the side for xp home but how do I go about getting just an XP home disc to use that key? Annoying I've formatted it so really am doomed lol.

Same for my sisters laptop too, that has a vista premium oem key but got it from fleabay so no format discs at all, but nothings been done to it yet.

Any help on either case greatly apreciated :-)

You can usually install direct from the recovery discs, have you checked all options?

What happened to the old hard drive?

The laptop, you've formatted it already or not?

PC: Tried with recovery discs, am starting with disc 1, being asked to go straight to 4 on telling it to format and install just windows, 30 seconds later it wants 1 again, reboot, put in recovery floppy discs which asks for cd 1, reboot, then getting 'invalid system disk' and tried every other combination I can think of under the sun. Would just a basic xp home oem disc let me enter the product key on the side of this pc?

Laptop: Err, to save a story yes :p
