Im looking for a set of 26 inch off road mountain bike tyres, the ones that came on my Trek just dont seem to have to grip to stand up to some of the looser parts of cannock chase so I spend a lot of time with my back wheel just sort of skitting all over the place.
I know theres a few chase riders on here so what would you guys recommend?
Ive already got a set of continental slicks that I run when im using the bike as a commuter so I'm fine there.

I'm running Maxxis Ignitor 2.35 on front, Maxxis Advantage 2.10 on rear and so far has been very good in all types of weather and terrain (tested at Llandegla dry/wet, Penmachno very wet and the Chase dry and wet).

I'm trying a pair of 2.30 Continental Vertical Protection next, get great reviews, chaps I ride with like them a lot and they are very light.

Another friend is running a set of Continental mavity 2.30 and loves them too.

Panaracer fire XC pro's are also very well rated.

What are you using at the moment, have you tried just dropping the tire pressure a bit instead?

I am using Panaracer fire XC pro's because I heard great things about them as well, but I haven't tried any other tyres so can't really compare it with anything else. So far, they grip very well except on tree roots.

Have a look on ebay because I got my pair new for £27 delivered.

Panaracer Fire XC are great tyres on rock but won't cope with the mud of Cannock Chase. The low profile gets clogged up with mud really easy turning them into slicks :D I've changed over to Panaracer Fire Mud Pro 1.8s and find them great in the mud although they are nowhere near as good as Fire XC on wet rock. Cannock Chase is a mudbath this time of year though!

Cheers for the recomendations guys at the moment im using some Bontrager jones acx 2.1's that came on the bike when I bought it, the first thing I tried was running at low pressures and even then they were still just spinning on the looser packed stuff

When you say "looser parts" of Cannock, are you on about gravel or gloop?

Personally, Trailrakers (aka Trailwreckers) really are a winter mud tyre. I spent Saturday ploughing through the gloop in the Clywds on a pair of Nobby Nics 2.2s. They sat on the mud a little but were enjoyable once you got used to the back tyre moving around a little. I've also been happy with Conti Slash 2.3s (though Conti' have a big ruler, so they are more like a 2.0) as a good all rounder. The Conti Edge (same tread as the Slash) but in a 1.9 size is meant to be good in the mud as it cuts through better. My Slash's are a bit like the Nobby Nics and float, but I like 'em.

Your bike might have come some with hard-as-nails OE rubber spec' ACXs (ie cheap tyres with a different compound from new ACXs you might buy in a shop).

Having ridden the maxxis advantage on my brother bike they are pretty amazing for the size of them. Maybe a bit soft for some serious every week riding. When i had panaracer fire xcs they were pretty good but had VERY thin sidewalls which resulted in it getting torn on a rock and bursting as it caught my brake block!

The continental verticals are ok but i dont think they are as grippy as the two previous tyres.

Currently got 2.35 Panaracer Rampage's on the full squish, 2.1 Maxxis Ignitors on the HT singlespeed. I've not been on Cannock Chase in about 23 years though :D

Another recommendation for Panaracer Fire XC Pro.

Much better than the Hutchinson's that came with my Giant. They handle the mud pretty well and will clear pretty quickly when you hit some water or road. The Panaracer Mud is probably great for the conditions I've been through recently.

Also, this is the first time I've used tubeless tyres and am loving them so far... I used to get flats quite often and I haven't had a single problem since I switched.

Unless you're running something like art latex, you still get flats with UST ;). I found ultraseal and nokian gazzaloddi dh tubes to be flat proof :D

Cheers for the advice guys Ive gone with a set of Maxxis Advantage so we will see how they do :)
