on first glance they look good, pretty sharp and pretty good saturation. It's just a pity it wasn't a nicer day but i suppose you can't help that!

On the contrary it was a beautiful sunny day! I found that if the sky was exposed correctly the horses were black as sin! So I tried to expose correctly for the action and let the sky blow.

It was my first sports photo jaunt so Im relatively pleased how it came out. That olympus 40-150mm lens is damn good!
 
Interesting colour in that case, it appeared to me to look as if it was quite cloudy, in bright sunlight I'd have expected more vivid colours I think, but they're still good shots. hmm, goes to play with photoshop....

Not at all, that is better.

You know, the pics look much better on my cameras lcd than they do in Rawshooter - much brighter and colourful.

well for future reference, it was mostly the shadow/highlight tool in photoshot, a little colour balance, some hue and saturation and a moderate unsharp mask in photoshop CS...
