Offered my 1st Graduate Job Today

Thanks.

Ive studied 1 accountancy module over my 3years at uni (i wanted to do more, but the timetable wouldnt allow it). This gave me a rough idea of Balance sheets/ P&L etc.

But they didnt even ask me any questions about specific accounting details, they just wanted to know i was keen. You would be in no worse position than me because you are studying physics, they would ask you why you want to be an accountant rather than use your degree

Yeah, I did Computer Science. They teach you all the technical stuff from scratch for the ACA, which I will add - is rock hard :o.

Studying Economics, although they recruit any graduate regardless of degree

Firms normally give conditional offers (2.1 mostly). The lady i spoke today only mentioned that i inform her of the grade i achieve when the results are out. It maybe a conditional offer, but i wont be sure until i receive the paperwork on saturday.

I am taking a year out after uni, and they are happy to defer my place till 07 :)

Well i think it's great that you have a job to walk into when you come back from travelling - will make travelling so much more fun!

But i still don't get how they can offer a job 18 months away, i mean i'd understand it if it was for a contract starting to sept '07 but oh well lol

I guess maybe they take on a certain number of graduates every year maybe?

I want to get into accounting/payroll too!

Edit: man thats one huge company:
Personel: 20,100 (soon to be 20,101)

Congrats mate, I know how tough it is to get into these graduate roles. Apparently for every graduate job there are XXX number of people applying to each place, so if you get through, you really are worth it, so they dont mind too much when you're gonna join.

I think they have 2000 UK employees and an international network which is much larger. I might be able to do 3 month secondments to offices abroad in the future which would be cool

One of my friends has a job offer from Slaughter & May starting in September 2008. Some of these companies are willing to go all-out to snaffle the best candidates.
