So as these have presumably already been sold to retailers, who's taking the hit on the price? The retailer? Or would Sony have sold them off at a cheaper price a month or so back?
Sony is likely not making £50 profit per console, though. So it might still be a bit of an outright loss. They'll of course make it back in software sales and PSN subscriptions, though.Usually in a "firesale" situation, the manufacturer will try to make sure the retailer doesn't take a hit. As the prices are so uniform it's almost certainly a Sony instigated sale, rather than the retailers being allowed to do what they want.
Retailers will effectively get credit from Sony.
So let's say that a PS4 was purchased by the retailer for £200 and is now solf for £149, Sony will give the retailer £50 of credit for each one.
And of course Sony made a profit when they sold it to the reatiler - so nobdy is losing out here.
