*OFFICAL* 9600GT Thread

Okay, the card performs well, but it performs just as well and costs just as much if you see where I'm coming from.

Seriously underwhelmed here, I could swear nVidia were just repackaging the same cards and telling people they had different specs and saying nothing else about it.

Great the decision just got harder on whether to go 8800GT or push even higher to the GTS...

Chuffed with the performance at the price I got my 8800GT for (not the mad money some peeps were paying) but if I was getting a card now, for the extra few quid I'd go for the 8800GTS 512.

most of the reviews right now will be based on this " GeForce 9600 GT cards are expected to sell anywhere from $169-$229 " im sure there reviews would be a little diff if they were based on the $246 min to god knows what we will be paying here in the uk .

ECS OC edition comes with a accelero S2 already installed with mx-2 paste pre-applied:)

wish they did this with the 8800GT's!

I think OcUK have done a good job with the pricing this time.

A pity the reviewers didn't throw a 8800GS into the mix for comparison. It's in the same price range as the 9600GT, after all.

Anyone know if there are any plans for a 9600GTS version? I believe a bit more memory bandwidth would put it on par with the 3870 at higher resolutions.

I hate [H] reviews, they dont compare each card on the same settings.

What does firingsquads review show? I cant see it college is blocking it, so is it 8800GT performance with a lot less shaders?

Its marketing gone mad, is what it is .... we do need however, is someone who offically owns this product to make a comment !

I take it SLI is out of the question with that cooler

Not at all. :)

As in this shot here where its face down (2nd pic down), thats how it would go in your case (unless you have a case like they've got there where its all upside down, like the last shot :D), so put this one in the bottom slot, then you can use the SLi connector to bridge up to your card in your top slot, so it can only be SLi'd when its in the bottom slot this card, as in the top slot, the cooler would block the SLi connector from use (as you wont be able to bridge down to your 2nd)

Don't see why he says SLi isn't possible there, he can just move the card from that slot further up, then bridge down to another card he can put in that slot instead, as the SLi connector is behind the HS.

I dont think the slim flat cooler is a problem, if your case has good case airflow. My 8800GT has the slim cooler, ok it has the bigger fan , never had any bother, apart from on full speed its loud

basically ..yes

The stock GeForce 9600 GT swept the overclocked Radeon HD 3850 in all of our DirectX 10 benchmarks.

Factory OC’ed boards pulled away even further from the Radeon HD 3870, suggesting that AMD will need to counter these boards with factory OC’ed 3870 cards. A quick glance at Newegg shows that HIS’ own overclocked 3870 board currently sells for $275. Depending on how fast that card is, that price probably needs to come down another $40-$50 to be competitive with the factory OC’ed 9600 GT boards.

Quite honestly, with just 64 stream processors we weren’t expecting much from NVIDIA’s GeForce 9600 GT. We knew it would be a strong competitor to the Radeon HD 3850, but we had no clue it would deliver performance that rivals the GeForce 8800 GT in some cases!

So how did NVIDIA manage to pull it off? Obviously the 9600 GT doesn’t have the pure shading horsepower of the 8800 GT, sporting just 64 stream processors compared to the 8800 GT’s 112, but other than the shading unit deficit the two GPUs are quite similar architecturally. Texture filtering and addressing capabilities are the same, as are the number of ROPs. In addition, they both offer the same peak memory bandwidth. This is important as we’re testing these games with the eye candy cranked up and with AA. In these types of situations, the GPU is often bound by its memory bandwidth. Also keep in mind that the 9600 GT sports higher graphics core and stream processor clocks than the 8800 GT.

When you combine this with the OC’ed clocks found on the cards we tested, these 9600 GT cards actually offer more ROP fill and memory bandwidth than a bone stock GeForce 8800 GT board.

With the introduction of the GeForce 9600 GT, NVIDIA’s finally provided a compelling sub-$200 DirectX 10 graphics part. If you’re a gamer on a budget who craves the best performance in DX9 and DX10 games, the GeForce 9600 GT is the best card on the market right now.

i just think if it had come in at 99.99 GBP it would have been a great marketing ploy

Capcom, if you're quoting a review it's good to put it in quote tags and name the source. I'm not criticising you. It's just a suggestion.

The 9600GT is priced at the same level as the 3850 512MB, which is its direct competitor in every way. It's well priced imo.

These will be about £99inc in a couple of weeks.

Even now, for £120inc postage, they pretty good. (even if they are just rebadged 8800GTs)
