***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

I've been playing a bit on L4D though only the first campaign so far... I figured I'd learn one first.

I had a quick blast online and got into one good game but on a couple of others I just got voted out for low scores or not keeping up! .. I still get lost easy.

Are there any non experts who fancy a steady game later just for fun?;)

I'd be up for a game with you, I've had some practice now but I still have lots to learn. Steam ID is n1tr061, give me a shout if you fancy a game.

Hmm amusing myself

paste: connect 87.106.101.38:27015

into your console to join me....

haven't figured out half the config options yet!

How do you add servers in L4D? It is not even listed in my server games options as a game. Whenever I enter any IP nothing is found. All filters are off.

Bah, this sucks. My L4D framerates have suddenly dropped and no longer runs smooth when zerged :( I haven't changed my settings at all, and I have restarted various times and made sure nothing is using up my resources in the background (including updates or security programs).

I'm still trying to work it out properly... if you know the ip and the port the easiest way is to pull up the console with ` then just type in connect <ip>:<port>

eg:

connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx

I tried that command, which basically just disables Multicore something in Video options, and it didn't help at all :( I read it might be to do with the latest 180-something nVidia drivers but the latest for me (since I'm running it on a Dell XPS M1530 with a 8600M GT) is 178-something.

I doubt it's the drivers as it was working perfectly fine until an hour ago.

More Googling I guess before I can play this game again...

Gonna try verifying my L4D files and maybe even defrag it if needed to see if it fixes it.

Had a similar sort of problem with TF2 a while back, if verifying doesnt work then try deleting the local content and redownloading l4d.

I wish it was possible to draw up alist of tips and hints which you could force everyone to read before you play :D

I mean, there's a vast difference between rushing a Versus level and running off ahead of everyone else without a backward glance - that way lies death for the entire team. Just saying, "let's rush" isn't really good enough. It seems to be happening a lot recently.

Oh, and if I hear one more person say, "everyone grab an auto-shotty and sit in this corner", I'm gonna go sit upstairs on my own :D

Hey everyone grab an auto-shotty and sit in this corner!

Seriously though I agree with what you are saying and I do believe that the kick option should also have a separate option of making people have to read a set of rules (made my Steam) and then have to answer questions about it before they are allowed to return.

Same with forums actually!

Bring up the console and type 'openserverbrowser' without the dash things.

Then you can add servers there, you just won't be able to view them on your desktop.

If you have joined the OcUK L4D group, you should have 4 servers on your opening screen pop up as well, along with what friends are currently palying the game.

Have you changed your drivers recently?

Have you tried these perhaps? http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winxp_179.28_beta.html

NOTE: Follow the link at point number 3 I think it is if you wish, dunno how important it is.

You said you tried disabling multi core rendering in the video options yeah? Have you tried running it in a borderless window mode too? This solved an issue I was having.

Wait.. you want everyone to have a list of hints and tips, yet you dont want to hear anyone trying to give out hints and tips?

The end of Blood Harvest is easy to win as survivors and it does involve everyone having auto shotties and sitting in the corners.. until the tanks arrive.
