***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Look at my 2nd edit. I wonder if that would work if we (us admins) typed it in?

If I get time I could put some of those changes into config files so that you'd have a menu in sm_admin that was like:

1. Zombies die from headshots only
2. Tanks move at double speed
3. Something else
4. Etc

I think I could do that anyhow.

One thing that I'd have to be careful of is allowing people to just up the numbers of zombies by a crazy amount. More zombies = more server load and if we had x2 or even x3 the number of zombies it'd be almost the same as running an extra server or two.
 
Could you cap the number of zombies? Allow double the number but have a maximum cap.

Tanks should move at 1.5 times the speed would be fast enough I reckon. the something else should be 3.Limit medpacks!

Yeah, the double tank speed thing was slightly tongue-in-cheek :)

I'll look into the other stuff. I can't promise that it'll be anytime soon I'm afraid :/
 
Ok, could be good to stop all these medpacks. As I've said numerous times, it is really frustrating when you wear the survivors down and out pop 3 or 4 medpacks to heal them back up again :( One or two throughout the map are fine, more than that though makes it frustrating, very easily...
 
I find it's quite rare when a team just keeps getting med paks although it is frustrating when it happens. Having said that it is VS and often games are decided with the spawn of a pak here or there by the director. Perhaps if on OCUK servers there were no med paks execpt the spawn room and then pills only - that would be ok.

The biggest injustice with regards to health is when AI Director will change the spawn frequency per map. Team 1 gets 1 med pack but Team 2 get 2 or 3. If its going to give med paks it should be exactly the same amount as the team who went first (different locations is ok, just not different amounts).

They are often awarded on longer maps anyway, such as NM3 where survivng with all 4 packs on a decent VS game would be a tall order. I'm personally more bothered about lack of tank spawning sometimes.

For example, the game last night was great but we only had 1 tank on maps 1-4. This made for quite boring runs at times, because it was a fairly balanced game. Needed something like a tank half way through a map to mix it up a little. No tanks are just boring and the second team (us on two occasions), just run through quicker knowing there is little point in stopping/searching.

Little supprised with Bledd and his distaste for Death Toll and Blood Harvest :) Personally, I think because I've played both NM and BH so many times they are on a par.

I don't enjoy dead air, seems more buggy and less to do than Death Toll. Although neither map is perfect at the mo I'd say DT is winning for me!
 
I'm pretty sure I saw a plugin that ensured a tank spawn on every map but I didn't see it when I re-checked the front couple of pages of plugins in alliedmods. I'll look again but if it's not immediately near the top it suggests that it was buggy or didn't work. Le suck :/
 
was on a server the other day (Monged) and we had TWO tanks AND TWO witches on one map :/


we died on second tank (it was on bh) at the end, but killed the other team on their first witch :D
 
There is a balance when it comes to tanks and witches, one of each on each map, you don't really want more than that, otherwise it's not really too fun either.

On another note a new update has been released, albeit minor:

Updates to Left 4 Dead have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Left 4 Dead


Removed a survival related command exploit

Achievements with multiple critera can now be expanded to show progress

mp_gamemode is now included with other console variables for server logging
 
the 2 new campaigns are buggy.... we played DA yesterday and on finale 2nd tank just didn't spawn for first team.. music was playing, no hordes just spec infected coming....

We bugged out tonight as we finished Death Tolls finale for the first time :(

Only one team got the chance to do the finale.

Seen that happen twice already.

Although I have managed to play it once successfully with it not going back to the lobby after the first game!

Heavies mowing down hordes, Engineers setting up sentries for crescendo events, Pyros torching whole buildings...

Just a quick note here to say sorry for dissapearing last night guys. NTL screwed me over and cut my net out from about 9-11pm.

Started a game with friends and ScareySquirrel, etc but then DC'd. I hope it all went ahead and you guys had a good game!
 
Not sure about that one mate. I had a particularly bad game the other night missing but I think that was just me with poor form.

I would have thought if there were changes like that they would be in the patch release notes? That of course, or you are just lagging? :D
