***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

If anyone wants a bog standard campaign on crash course with pings less than 100 then let me know my steam name is [OcUK] SuBsTaNcE, seems it is impossible to find people who don't want to play vs atm

Had a few games on Expert tonight, it's alright, nothing incredible. It feels like a decent mod. It just seems a bit lacking in charm and memorable locations, which the other campaigns have by the bucket load.

I can see it being a lot better on VS, it's an infected playground. I don't really play much VS any more though.

Being completly lost for the first time in a long time made me remember why I fell in love with L4D though. I'm a bit more pumped for the sequel now.

Maybe because I just haven't played Left 4 Dead in a while, but I found this new campaign to be very disappointing in looks and design, and found it a bit too easy with far too many ammo/health points even on Expert.

But as said before, maybe on the Versus mode, it will be a whole different game. I mean there really is a lot of open areas, and some of the hordes seem slightly longer too.

Crash Course was more or less just what i expected it to be. I thought it was a nice change and i like the open areas (and there are not several routes, it just feels that way cus you dont know the map yet). We also tried a bit of survial mode which was good fun. Beat 10 minutes on the bit with the cannon on the second try with Sharpy, Robert1986 and Midnight, which isnt bad considering local host is epic fail :p
Will look forward to a bit of versus tomorrow hopefully!

Yeah, just played a campaign with Link, Kearney and dude with lots of squares in his name !?!?!?!?!?!

Much better playing with people you know, and much better for a 2nd run through. Only 1 route through as Cat says. Its openess bodes well for 8v8 I think !!! :D

Not great sadly.... Feels to easy bar the finale, and way to much ammo around the map to make it scary....

Ended up getting lost at one point and back near the start of the map to.... I hope L4D2 is better than this, on par with the original game....

Jcb33.

Hehehe, that would be me, need to change my screen name again as Win7 Times New Roman doesn't seem to display for some people.

Not impressed with the update, gui updates along the bottom especially as they didn't need doing. More time creating a larger campaign would have been time well spent.

As for this being a 30 minute campaign, that's a lie.

Did anyone else get caught out by the finale?

I had a quick solo playthrough but I didnt hold out in the obvious spot that you first see as you come into that arena. After the second tank died the horde kept coming as the game never told me I had to do anything extra, leaving me to stand round like a tit for a good few minutes before deciding to re-explore the area.

Easy right up until you start that generator. Agree about the guns/ammo dumps, way too many, make ammo management unnecessary as you can pretty much hit W+1M all the way around

The howitzer wasn't that satisfying either (Hmm just had an idea, mortars next please valve)

That level felt a lot like I think L4D will play like but dark instead of daytime

Left 4 Dead

  • Made the variable "mp_gamemode" available again. Note that you can also load maps directly with different game modes by specifying it in the map command. For example, "map l4d_garage01_alleys versus" will set mp_gamemode versus for you automatically and load the first map of Crash Course
  • Added "mm_dedicated_force_servers" to allow specification of a list of dedicated server addresses manually used for searching (ms_force_dedicated_server is depreciated)
  • Updated shared libraries and DLLs preventing dedicated servers listing correctly, appearing on Steam groups, and being found via sv_search_key

Update has been updated already!!

There are lots of alternate routes through the same areas. There is usually at least one path through a building if you dont want to run about outside. Felt a touch less linear perhaps.

Liked the writing on the wall in the safe house, made me smile.

Only had a blast on single player, looking forward to a bit of VS.

Can't say I was impressed at Crash Course. I've only played it on Campaign and not VS but admittedly I think the aim from Valve was to create a VS map in particular so maybe the following rant is unjustified.

However, I can't help but feel that it's all a bit unimaginative really. Both maps are one big street with little side routes tacked on at the side with no real character (although the safe room writing was funny "QQ"). I've seen a lot better stuff made by the community. I'm still of the opinion that Valve has just rushed this out to say they kept their DLC promise and try and get the boycotters and naysayers to shut up for a bit.

I still have confidence that L4D2 will be the dogs though.

From what I could tell the map is built for Versus and not campaign.

  • Way to many places to get tier 2's
  • It is definitely a map where survivors are just going to leg it because it offers few choke points not enough places where the common infected spawn from and little resistance to slow survivors down so you can pretty much run the map.
  • Wider spaces and roof access for infected can be a blessing as well as a hindrance for infected as it is harder to drag a survivor off out of line of sight (and gun).
  • I like the idea for the map and I think it will offer a bit of spice to the game, which mod-less is defiantly starting to lose its edge.

I don't want to sound quite negative, because I think this will offer more to versus and the 30 min time for completion is certainly going to help matters with late night gaming.

Sounds like the dev team have really pushed the boat out on this DLC for the fans...

haahahahah.

From the opinions I have read so far, it sounds like they bashed this one out in a quick 5 minutes just to shut people up.

Wonder where else they were focussing their attention, where they might also possbly be getting people to pay another £30 from in a months time....hmmmm...let me think....
