is this a joke? wtf is going on here? just installed this and i can't get my head round it at all. using word at the moment and it won't even draw a simple table like i'm used to doing in previous versions. also i want to convert all the text in my document to lowercase. except i can't - i have no idea where the option is. it's probably the most un-intuitive software i've ever used. should i have to dig around myriads of options or google what i want. i don't think i should. i'm not an office pro but i can use previous versions to get things done. this is an abomination....... :o

Lol yeah I found it hard to get on with as did my fiancé for doing our monthly budget etc....

Went back to 2003 in the end, after a fresh install!

I'm using it because:

1) its free.
2) having knowledge of it will be useful next year when it starts getting rolled out among corporates.

People said the same thing when Windows 95 was released over Win 3.1x
The same was said for Office 95 over Office 4.3

There is a learning curve with Office 2007 and that is the main reason we are seeing such a freely open beta for this product - to prepare people.
Because as long as you don't give up, Office 2007 is going to offer some nice features.

We've been slowly rolling the beta out to a few people as due to having SA on all of our Office licenses we'll be ready to roll it out on release day.
Hopefully nearly all of our users will be using the beta version before that date so the move over is very smooth indeed.

once my mum's 512kb finishes the behemoth vista download (40 mins left!) i'll be downloading the office beta, i downloaded it last using my 10meg (remotely) then uploaded to my site so i can get it quicker today :p

i used one of the earlier alpha/beta's, the fading menu's really put me off

speed is king, which is why i've been using notepad instead of office recently!

for me, office is only good for printing out my cv every two years or so :o

Deal with it. Its change which needs to be embraced. We all have to live with it.

Way I see it is. Use it now and you'll be uber when it comes out. Although it could get annoying with everyone asking you how to do this and that.

I haven't put this on my PC yet with it being a beta. Does it behave properly? Can you genuinely use it as a replacement to Office 2003 for simple spreadsheets and documents?

heads up,

i like the beta, but it badly screwed up my calendar in out look.

I did like the idea behind it though, for some reason it put all birthdays that i had in my calendar as 2 day celebrations lol, so presents on both days, and an excuse for 2 &!%% up's.

Had to re-start the calendar from scratch as any backups i imported in also mucked up in this fashion.

Keep pressing ctrl+F3 with the text highlighted to convert your text to all lowercase.

It *was* free a few weeks ago when I downloaded it. I think they've only recently started charging for the download.

The ISO is bound to be on the P2P/torrent network of your choice. (No problem mentioning that is there? It (was) freely available software....) :)

just checked and i actually got my free registration details way back in may. i've only just installed it now.... :p

guess i'll stick with it but i can see this ******* off a lot of people. :D

and doesn't it look pretty with the new icons when you install the technical refresh?

I gotta say I found it much more user friendly and intuative compared to previous releases, and of course prettier. Although when I did use it when the beta came out Outlook didn't seem to want to work properly and crashed quite a bit but I don't know whether thats been fixed as I was using the initial beta release.

Been using 2007 for a long time now, its awsome everything is better!

My only gripe is the 2007 saving format (would be nicer if it worked with 2003 etc as well)
