Office 2010 RTM

but they still have the retarded ribbon (literally made for retards but making the 99% of other users completely frustrated)

that is fail......there not getting my money until they bring back the TB.

Personally I way prefer the new layout (the 2007 onwards look)

Everything is easy to find and not deep inside a menu tree, also with 2007 I don't find myself wrestling with the formatting options!

Haven't used 2010 yet, one thing I hope they've sorted is closing multiple excel documents in Windows 7 takes ages, right click, close all doesn't work if they're not saved

Aces. Looking forward to getting my copy via HUP for a tenner or so :)

And the ribbon does have a learning curve, but once you get used to it, it is much better than the dozens of menus that we were previously saddled with.

Microsoft made a statement ages ago that the ribbon interface is here to stay. But it would be nice of them to incorp function where you could switch between the ribbon and classic interface without having to use 3rd party software to do it.

Ummmm......
Ribbon = best change to MS Office for many years.
Really sorry to hear you're having problems with it - most 5 year olds don't!

Basically the ribbon is going nowhere - enjoy Open Office.

wow i love what you did there - not.
no need for that tbh, i think your find the vast majoirty of people prefer the TB over ribbon..and they did literally change it to make it more user friendly but in the process made everyone relearn something thats taken 10 years of getting used to.

fair enough if your a casual user, but when it comes to issues like security, macros, db relationships etc - the ribbon is hell.

I can make up random stuff too, did you know that the majority of gorillas prefer KFC to Burger King? Anyway who needs any basis to fact. Sure not everyone likes it, but if you look at the initial reaction to it in 2007 and have a read of popular blogs about 2010, most people in my experience seem to like it.

I'm certainly not a casual user and I love the ribbon.

Agreed the ribbon is a superb interface. I find it typical to note that the people complaining about the ribbon are the same people who complained about moving away from XP. I've been loving the 2010 beta, and really like Outlook now it has the Ribbon.

Things evolve. Deal with it.

Please stop talking as if you know these things for fact :). Mainly cause you're talking utter rubbish.

If you could post a source for your argument on most people prefering the old menu system I'd be interested to read it.
As a straw poll - of the 60+ users of Office 2007 I've got here at work only one person ever complained about the Ribbon.
Majority of my users are not "casual".

They changed to the Ribbon after a LOT of market research.
Microsft make most of their money from Office and they were not going to do something to it that might hurt sales.

I think you also mis-understood my 5yr old statement.
I wasn't calling you 5yrs old.
What I was saying was that if 5yr olds in schools (yes, MS did some research here too) can cope with the Ribbon I would expect you to be able to.

Yep the ribbon is great IMO and I am sure MS did extensive research/testing on the ribbon and found that most people would prefer to have the ribbon than the flat menus.

I have seen the anti-ribbon argument on these forums before. Usually a claim of stuff is harder to do, when usually it is the same, if not much easier. New does not mean worse. The ribbon is fantastic and for the vast majority of functions it is already well thought out.

You can of course customize the ribbon further to suit your own special needs.

Where did you get that statistic from? I work in IT and haven't come across anyone as of yet who prefers the original interface. Once you get used to the ribbon it's a fantastic way to quickly do tasks.
