Hi guys, this is aimed at people particularly au fait with sharepoint online.

I've recently migrated a customer to office 365 and they are setup with everything in the cloud, emails, documents, archives etc.

They are intending to get new internet at some point, but right now their dodgy internet combined with the enormousness of the file/folder structure is really affecting performance, in explorer view it can take up to 15 seconds to navigate into child folders and even longer to open the root parent directory.

With the archives I tried splitting it into different libraries at about 5GB per library but it hasn't made a whole lot of difference, is anyone able to advise a way to improve sharepoint performance via explorer view/website view without an upgraded internet connection?

It's my understanding that the libraries are far far far too huge to sync via Onedrive! :(

Please advise if anyone has any clue! :)

Thanks,

Jamie

Interesting read, also didn't realize that there was a subreddit for stuff like that, cheers! :D

It's very situational and down to the users in my opinion.. for example myself and 2 colleagues in my office use the office 365 account I setup, we use a sharepoint team site with about 10 libraries, versioning enabled.. absolutely perfect - does everything I need to and more..

It's when you introduce it into the hands of IT derelicts you get the issue, there are some users that are so so so slow with it the mind boggles (I feel bad for saying this of course but I'm sure a lot of you agree that it's true!)

Good points - online, safe, pretty quick

Bad points - 20,000 file restriction, %, &, . can't be used, files will randomly drop out of sync, using on a slow connection can be a nightmare, if you use it with explorer view it can disconnect every now and then (not a problem for me but for really slow end users it means a call to me every hour)

I've come up with a few workarounds that I'll share now with hope that they'll be useful to some people! Incoming next post
