As 2010 is not due to see anymore new major release PC games & Fable3 is looking like a 2011 title now & Dead Space2 is the next major scheduled release end of Jan 2011 perhaps it time to start talking about your best/worse games with the Steam/GFWL sales only a few days away ;) For me 2010 was not a great year for PC gaming at all due to some very shoddy console ports & lackluster game design's: I can only talk about games I bought/played & everyone has different tastes so ........

BEST:
Lost Planet 2 (DX11 looks amazing & running around in giant mech suits killing giant bugs is a lot of fun plus a lot of unlockables to discover + 4 player co-op is epic fun)

Dead Rising2 (lots of gameplay & killing zombies never gets old + solid 2 player co-op)

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (stunning graphics & easy to pick up & play but hard to put down).

Blazblue Calamity Trigger (fun to play arcade fighter with cross platform play vs 360 players)

Splinter Cell 5 (amazing looking in places considering its Unreal Engine 2.5 but gameplay is dumbed down for console kiddies so combat based with little stealth. Still highly polished & fun to play though the DRM works really well & is seamless).

Kane & Lynch2 (looks great & has some amazing graphical filters but gameplay is limited & K&L1 did not really need a sequel which is why the developers are now in financial trouble!)

Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light (decent enough old school isometric shooter just about worth £10)

Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY (almost perfect game)

WORSE:

Star Wars Force Unleashed2 (only 3 levels which are cut up into several sections to con you into thinking your getting a long game but technically appalling with no vsync & lots of gameplay glitches/bugs. A new worrying lowpoint for Lucasarts. I loved SWTFU1 on PC but hate SWTFU2 as its a rip-off product & insult to SW fans everywhere even if it were free DLC I would not bother getting it!!).

Call Of Duty Black Ops (boring uninteresting SP which is more movie based QTE than gameplay, bugged MP & very dated looking overall).

The other following games I bought on PC this year I felt were average:

F1 2010 (terrible front end menu's & bland overall).

AVP (Good looking but boring same old gameplay).

Metro 2033 (looks great but gameplay is nothing special).

Just Cause2 (looks great & easy to pickup & play but lacking gameplay wise)

Prince Of Persia Forgotten Sands (average looking & dated gameplay)

Tom Clancy's HAWK2 (DX11 looks incredible but gameplay is average)

Assassins Creed2 (looks dated & worse gameplay than AC1 but easy to pick up & play)

Fallout New Vegas (looks horrible & gameplay is dated. Its not even a full price product should have been Fallout3 DLC !!)

Dark Void (average looking & reasonable gameplay with PhysX enabled especially)

GTA4 Liberty Episodes (same old boring dated gameplay but looks reasonable with a GTX480/580 as it needs 1.2GB VRam to look its best).

I think 2011 will be a much better year for PC gaming now DX11 is starting to become more widespread plus emerging PC gaming markets like Russia/Far East/Africa/Eastern Europe mean the PC is starting to sell a lot of games globally overall. The newer DRM schemes mean it will receive more publisher attention next year as the digital download sales, console owner fatigue (the smart ones are already moving onto PC gaming when they see how superior it is compared to their limited hardware) will help increase sales.

Best: Mass Effect 2

Worst: Haven't bought many games this year and when I do it's only games that I know won't be ****, so don't really have a worst.

Amnesia been the best for me this year since i love horror games and also the price it was released at too was nice unlike other games.

so your opinion is that black ops is worse than avp?

civ 4 and dead rising 2 are my pc gameplay choices for this year,

are we judging these games based on their gameplay merit? or just their perceived graphics performance? its just that your op seems slighty slanted towards the latter..

I agree with black ops as I think its overpriced again..

Fallout I.disagree on it may look dated but a few mods sort that out plus you can do a lot more than most games.

Sorry OP, but the fact that you have Kane and Lynch in your best group makes me question everything else you posted ;)

Best games I've played this year:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - With better engine it would be the clear game of the year. They should have released NEW maps sooner. I want destruction physics in every game now.
Mass Effect 2 - I just hope they don't simplify ME3 even more. I would actually still like to PLAY the game, not just enjoy the story.
Mafia 2 - Finally a proper sequel to a game of the year. Just have to ignore the DLC.
Fallout: New Vegas - To me Fallout 1-2-3-New Vegas are all on the same line, damn brilliant games all of them. Old engine? Bah, it does the job.
Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer - Yes, I do enjoy the multiplayer thanks to dedicated servers and adjustable FOV and no, I haven't had a single problem yet.
Starcraft 2 - I don't actually even play the multiplayer but watching professional players play the game is mind-boggling. Oh and the singleplayer was good too :)
iRacing - The new BMW F1 blew my mind. It's the best game/simulator/whatever that is about driving cars ever made, period.
Minecraft - I'm not sure anyone can explain why this game is good. It just is.

Other games worth playing: Bioshock 2, R.U.S.E., Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising, Recettear, Stalker: Call of Pripyat, and one non-PC game too: Red Dead Redemption, I just wish it was released on PC. A damn fine game.

I wish it was better:
F1 2010 - Despite the good core gameplay, the game has so many problems and hey guess what, I would like actual AI drivers too.
Civilization 5 - Don't get me wrong, it's a great game. It just lacks that extra something to make it the best Civilization game yet. Maybe an expansion does that?
Elemental: War of Magic - Everything looked promising year ago. Now, 3 months after the release day we are still waiting for the game to arrive...
NHL 11 - They changed a lot but.. it just failed to deliver. Technical issues aside I just don't have that much fun playing against the AI this year. Go online you say? I've had enough bad experiences with trying to play NHL games online.

Terrible high-budget games:
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - It has literally the worst driving model I have ever experienced in a "serious" game. Comparing the handling to something like Wacky Wheels might be unfair towards Wacky Wheels. Health block bars on cars? A huge crash worth the same as slightly denting the enemy car? They really did try their worst and I think they succeeded. NFS: HP is simply a terrible driving game. Literally one of the worst triple-A games I have ever played.
Assassin's Creed 2 - First game showed some promise, the second one went even further into a very stupid QTE-game. Imo. one of the worst franchises people keep buying.
Splinter Cell: Conviction - Need I say anything? I think they forgot the game was named Splinter Cell, not yet-another-generic-console-shooter.
Just Cause 2 - Almost every single thing is done poorly in this game. Well the visuals are great at times but other than that, it's just a huge failure of a game.

Starcraft 2 for me.

I really am surprised at the number of console ports being mentioned so far. I thought consoles were the devil in these parts. ;)

BEST:

Mass Effect 2 - It might be a generic run and cover shooter at heart, but it's just Superb.

WORST:

Civilisation V - For those that hate what's been done with this, they hate it with a passion. I am one of these.
