Miami International Autodrome

When was the track built?

Having made its F1 debut in May 2022, the Miami International Autodrome is a temporary circuit, but one designed to have a permanent feel. Set in the Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami Gardens, home to the NFL’s famous Miami Dolphins franchise, the track is the culmination of a development process that simulated no less than 36 different layouts before settling on a thrilling, 19-turn lap that provides a street circuit vibe, not dissimilar to Melbourne’s Albert Park.

When was its first Grand Prix?

The inaugural Miami Grand Prix took place in 2022, the Florida race joining its Texan counterpart in Austin to become the second US race on the calendar – and the 11th different American venue to host a round of the Formula 1 world championship.

What's the circuit like?

A street-track spectacular. With the Hard Rock Stadium at its epicentre, the 5.41km layout features 19 corners, three straights, three DRS zones, and top speeds of over 340km/h. There are elevation changes too, the main one found between Turns 13 and 16, with the track heading over an exit ramp and under various flyovers across uneven ground. The Turn 14-15 chicane, meanwhile, has an uphill approach, with a crest in the middle, and then drops down on exit.

Why go?

The Hard Rock Stadium knows how to put on a show – it has hosted six Super Bowls, two Baseball World Series and numerous rock concerts. Put it at the heart of a track designed to encourage close racing while meeting the highest safety standards and you have a sure-fire winner for spectators. Then there’s Miami itself – famed for its sandy beaches, art deco vibe, vibrant multiculturalism and rich sporting heritage, it’s an essential destination for those visiting the Sunshine State.

Just a reminder, but consider it a warning - can we not have any further derogatory name calling of drivers, team bosses and the like. We don't expect you to like every driver/team, but at least keep comments respectful.

If you don't follow this warning, you will lose access to the race thread and the thread for the following race as well.

This includes but is not limited to such terms including Lulu, Crashstappen, Karen Horner, Whingey Spice etc.

I think I might start deciding to watch races depending on how long the straights are :o How does this track compare?

Mind you it’s on at a nice time and the grid walk might be amusing again.

This is gonna be a snooze fest isn't it?

I'm sure perez is going to fall away over the season. Because it's the only thing the media have to make it exciting.

Hope I'm wrong

Everyone says he's a street circuit expert, so if he can win this one wouldn't he be leading the championship? Might put some pressure on Max - who seems in a strange headspace right now. If Perez gets lucky in Imola then it's Monaco which is another strong one for Perez. if the chips fall in his favour in the next few races he could build some sort of a lead that is not to be sniffed at. Then we might see Verstappen circa '21 which would be amusing.

That said, yes I think we're all just being too hopeful that any of that will happen  :p

I do like seeing max getting irrational! :D

I'm no supporter of anyone at the top, so like to think I'm Neutral there. Was a bit surprised by MV reaction to the GR/MV incident.

Quite like Russell. Hope he continues to do well. And push/wind up verstappen.

He's a strange one is MV. His driving is usually excellent, I like how he fights for positions. But his moaning when others (ie GR) does same is in the face hypocrisy.
Least it provides stove entertainment for us!

Saw that earlier, it makes me wonder how much a Red Bull livery designer gets paid as it's got to be a pretty cushy job ctrl+c, ctrl+v the design each year and make a special livery by adding a stripe.

To be accurate it's the first of three fan-made liveries as part of Red Bull’s ‘Make Your Mark’ that will adorn the cars of Max's and Sergio's at each of the three U.S. venues this year: Miami, Austin and Las Vegas.

Oh so they got someone else to design the livery then…..so even lazier than I thought :p

I just realised earlier how good this season would potentially be if Red Bull didn't exist.

We would be having a three team battle for the championship, probably involving 4 drivers (Lewis, Alonso, Russell and Leclerc - no disrespect to Sainz or Stroll, but realistically it would the aforementioned 4 that would be competing for the title..).

Can we just delete the Red Bull , and see how that plays out? Would likely be a totally epic season :p

Could say that about most recent seasons.

Not really. I mean maybe last season you could say would have been a two way fight between Merc and Ferrari, but Merc got very lucky with how inept Ferrari were against Red Bull, so i still think Ferrari would have won, with Merc being a solid second.

It is rare that the 2nd-4th teams are all so close.

Did you say the same for Merc the last 6+ years?

I think you are missing my point somewhat.

In essence, I am saying it is rare that 2nd-4th are so closely matched AND those teams have a brilliant roster of talent, so without Red Bull it would be pretty epic.

2014-2020 without Merc would have been epic too.
But strange how that's never mentioned by the fan boys.

Out of those years 2015 and 2020 were the only boring seasons. 14 and 16 was good battle between both Mercs. 17-19 was between Merc and Ferrari as Seb led 17/18 seasons till the mid point I believe.
