I was going to say - Lando didn't go wide in turn 16 !
[Turns out it was deleted because the previous lap, last corner was out of track limits, so gaining an advantage in to the next lap] But re-instated :)

Just shows you go to the end because Hamilton could have backed off thinking he had Pole already, before the end.

Wish this was for Sundays race .. And it stay wet!
Most of the cars are probably setup for a dry race, which doesn't bode well for those who qualified well in the wet as they probably have too much downforce tuned in. Will be interesting to see if the weather is a factor for the race.

Actually, looking at the regs I don't think there is a general "... and the next lap" rule; I think it is part of the Race Director's notes and the notes for this race don't say it. Looks to me like it was re-instated because the stewards made a mistake in deleting it not because they ignored a "... and the next lap" rule.

McLaren argued that the conditions meant that Lando gained zero advantage by not fully navigating the last corner within track limits and actually started his next lap at a lower speed because of it.

There is no rule that the next lap is deleted, it is part of the Race Director's Event Notes specific to each weekend, this weekend says:

13) Track Limits

In accordance with the provisions of Article 33.3, the white lines define the track edges. During Qualifying and the Race, each time a driver fails to stay within the track limits, this will result in that lap time being invalidated by the Stewards.

Whereas, for example in Bahrain where the rule applies, it says:

13) Track Limits

In accordance with the provisions of Article 33.3, the white lines define the track edges. During Qualifying and the Race, each time a driver fails to stay within the track limits, this will result in that lap time being invalidated by the Stewards. Additionally, each time a driver fails to respect track limits at the entry or exit of turn 15, will result in that lap time and the immediately following lap time being invalidated by the Stewards.

So the Steward's were wrong to delete it, and McLaren didn't need to make any such argument. If they had, I think it would have been overturned on appeal because the rule doesn't include any clause about gaining an advantage when it is introduced.

Wow what an different fp1 and quali, never once in all my years of watching F1 have I ever seen a red flag due to a track side firs. Very weird.
Well done to Norris but if the sprint is dry then unfortunately he'll be easily overtaken on a straight as the McLarens are slow, but we'll see. Hamilton will face a similar problem.
Lovely and appreciative crowd..
