Spa-Francorchamps​

The track's origins trace back to 1921, when Jules de Thier and Henri Langlois van Ophem decided to play connect-the-dots with the towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy, and Stavelot, creating a 14.9km joyride through the Ardennes' forests and hills. Fast forward to 1979, and the track got a makeover, shrinking to a still impressive 7.004km, holding the title for the longest lap dance with F1 cars on the current calendar.

The first Grand Prix? Oh, that was a party thrown in 1924, but it wasn't until 1950 that Belgium's track joined the exclusive club of seven to kick off the Formula 1 World Championship. Juan Manuel Fangio took the crown, leading an Alfa Romeo parade to victory.

Describing Spa is like detailing a rollercoaster designed by Mother Nature and adrenaline junkies. It's a buffet of straights and curves where drivers can feast on speed, provided the weather plays nice, which in Belgium, is a bit of a lottery. Eau Rouge is the cherry on top, a corner so famous it probably has its own fan club.

Why visit? It's a no-brainer! Spa is to F1 what chocolate is to waffles. Legends like Senna and Schumacher have tamed this beast, and with the Ardennes forest as the backdrop, it's a spectacle that drew a whopping 265,000 fans in 2017.

The best seat in the house? Perch yourself on the grandstand by Eau Rouge. It's like having VIP tickets to the concert of the year, with a view stretching from La Source to Raidillon. And if the action gets too intense, just remember to breathe.

They're going to be testing new driver identification markings on the camera mounts above the driver's head this weekend. Seems like a time to repeat my oft-repeated opinion that they should stop putting numbers on the cars, and just put the driver's initials there instead.

Hmmm I do like the idea but sponsorship would probably get in the way.

It's a key thing with other sports when numbers change.

Also I think Max will lose the number 1 to one of the mclarens which will then set off a chain of people wanting to buy a mclaren jersey with the number 1 on it.
