**Official 3DMark 'Fire Strike' Leaderboard**

Depends if you plan to go SLI, I've seen a few people asking if they could SLI two 970's on their 650w PSU's which you can, whereas with 290's most people would tell you not to.

Lower power has it's benefits, it's not just marketing crud as it usually leads to lower temps and higher overclocks as can be seen with these cards. I bet if nvidia hadn't focussed at all on power efficiency they wouldn't be hitting 1500mhz.

Which is scoring better a clocked 290 or clocked 970 ? For some reason my Ipad will not load the tables since this stupid IOS 8 update.

There's three 290's above what my 970 scored, 2nd and 3rd should be easy to beat, not sure what speeds those are running but I bet they're all pushed to their limit. I'm going to play more tomorrow and see what this card tops out at. In the coming months you can expect a few hundred points from drivers alone on new cards.

I wonder if the 256bit bus is holding back the 970 and 980 ? I would bet we will see a 980 variant with a 512bit bus.

I remember 8Pack saying that he had some GTX780's around the 1.6Ghz+ mark under LN2 and he even said they we bandwidth limited so there's no doubt in my mind that these 970/980's are.

Reviewers have noted that the higher the resolution you go with the cards the less of a lead they have over the GTX 780 series and 290/290x.

Then why have people already made them?

There's always a few who want to push every card to the max. I bet the 970 Gibbo clocked to 1680 on just the standard +87mv would score in the top 10 for air.

Just checked he got 6122 on firemark extreme with a 970 at 1600/8400. The only 290 to beat that is watercooled and the CPU at 5.1ghz.

It's a shame Nvidia did not go with a 512bit bus with these cards especially with 4GB of ram. The more you push the clock speed the more the small bus will limit the card.

They did the same with the 770 by increasing memory and clock speeds to compensate for the smaller bus. I'm just not sure it's the best way forward tbh but this is Nvidia so common sense usually does not apply.. :)

The 970 does offer superb value for money though. I doubt I would spend £400+ on a 980 with only a 256bit bus it's just wrong for me.

I was close to buying the 980 but the extra £150 didn't seem logical. Saying that moving from a 780 because it was a poor clocker and my mate wanted it for cheap wasn't logical either :D
