My pc keeps crashing out on games is this the joys of going back on ATI , they were fine on my old 8800gts 640 meg and yes i did a clean format.

I've had no issues with ATI and my 5870.

Saying that i did find the msi drivers to be crap. i'm using the ones off the AMD/ATI site dated 21st Sept

update

my 5850 can do 830mhz on stock voltage.

but on 3dmark06 the fps didn't seem higher .. but on ati tools 3d view, the fps does go higher

TBH your CPU is holding you back a bit in 3dmark06

Vantage would be a better test.

if thats the case, why did my 2 4850 in crossfire get higher fps/score in 3dmark06?

surely crossfire would be more limited to the cpu.

Not sure, perhaps driver issue then. But anyway you are deifnitely CPU bottlenecked in the 3dmark06 standard run....pretty much every setup with a modern GPU is.

My spec is Q6600@ stock
2x1 gig OCZ PC6400
5850@ stock
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w

I have tried the latest off the ATI site and the beta ones on guru3d i have just installed the ones of the cd to try them lol.

That's pretty good scaling IMO.

Crack it up to 1000Mhz, a 30% overclock from stock and you would expect to see a 21% gain in scores for free.

Just out of interest were you expecting your Vantage scores to increase by a bigger percentage than you overclocked?

it just seem very little increase on the fps. the score is nothing. im going by the fps..

The score is derived from the FPS so it certainly is something....

5% increase on the fps so all is well..............

On asus website they claim that with there voltage tweaker, you can get a 36% increase in peformance. If that is true the 4850 is a beast.

Proven already. I have seen many people with the MSI afterburner getting 1000Mhz which is 30% already. And that works on any card as well.
