Link to compatable RAM doesn't go to specific page just ABIT global page, I can't find this info out either at the min :/

yeah I was gonna put the linky in once the guy woke up and started really testing it...beat me to it ;)

I'm going to be building my PC sometime this week or next .I'm stuck in the dilemma of this X38 or the Abit IP35 Pro

Ill remember to keep an eye on this thread.:p

Just ordered this board tonight :)
Just about to order the Tuniq Tower 120 cooler.....anyone see it being difficult to fit ??

Mixed reports, I am in the process of building the system up (see sig) so hopefully it should be ok.
From what I can find on the net, anything below 400 FSB and there are no problems, this equates to around 3.6GHZ on a Q6600 (9 X 400) its when you start to push things that the current bios version starts to spasm...it might be like when the IP35 Pro was launched..will improve lots with bios releases.
heres hoping :)

there's a beta BIOS - should have it today hopefully & on the abit forum Beta BIOS sticky later.

aye, just noticed it mentioned on **cough** another Oc forum I frequent :) Not got my build up and running yet,...will flash to the latest bios when ready..report back with any findings...it does worry me a little that the living review found it to be so ...unlivable :p

According to Gary key at Anandtech none of the X38s were recommendable up until they got last week's BIOS updated from Asus & Gigabyte.
Given that they've had the boards out longer that gives abit a few weeks to catch up ...

of course if you aren't planning on Cf there doesn't seem to be much/any advantage over P35 ...

Well, its built

All up and running, including the 4GB of Crucial Ballistix 8500.

Guru keeps freezing, but I will up load latest bios tomorrow.

Just one thing, I have managed to make a bootable USB pen, following guids on net, but how do I get the USB drive to be above my C;| drive in the bios screen ??

ok, so my build is up and running, with suprisingly few problems, but one or two minor frustrations.

Firstly, the bios and CMOS needs clearing when ever the power to the PSU is unhooked for any length of time.

Secondly, I have had the Bios freeze, just the once, but Guru in windows hangs when ever I try to shut it down, to the point where I have stopped it loading up in the start up plus the temps are Way , way off !!

I am still on the bios as shipped, which is something else I need a little help with.

so, ok, I am at 3GHz, gently pushing the FSB, I have manually set the timings of the 4GB of crucial Ballistix, but I am very confused by what CPUz is reporting, the tRAS I set in bios was 18, however when CPUZ loads it reports it as 24 ??

I am still finding my way with this Intel stuff...I wonder if I have something selected I shouldn't have ???

Still can't work the USB pen drive as a boot drive...i was made using my other PC Win XP Pro should I restart in Vista 64 bit ?

So, a few things I would really like help on:

I would love to flash the bios....USB pen being a bit of a git

Is the memory showing different in CPUz a problem ?
something I should change (from screen shots above)??

Or should I just crack on with the FSB pushing ??

Any advice / comments most welcome

I followed this guide re usb pen , worked a treat Ace-A-Rue Bios Flashing Procedure However had to manually flash the beta using the parameters in the guide for the beta, wouldn't flash from bat, even after changing RUNME.BAT. You also need to rename the bios file to .bin from .b02

What vcore are you using ?? Initially Clunk & I were having to use high silly values to get clocks we could get elswhere on much lower vcore.
By tweaking GTLREF & VTT have managed to lower vcore. 9x400 Prime Stable vc=1.4135v

luck:)

hey Supershanks, thanks for the reply.

I am using default Vcore...not increased it at all, and can get to 3.0 GHz ok.
Although my 3D 2006 score is a little worrying...7694 @ 3.0 GHz ??

Don't look to hot:D. Not run 3dmark yet , as i have rig barebones atm, without my normal gfx card, so that will have to wait.

Have you checked stability yet ?? I found I could manage 3k at stock but wasn't stable. Clunk & myself both had issues like this Clunks Clocks I was originally putting >1.5v to get 3.6k.

I got my 12hr prime ok , so am pretty happy to continue, only fly in the ointment now is HD Detection.

luck:)
