Go on tommy! ;)

:D

Never thought I'd say this, but Mantles not bad actually.

It really is (now a believer)Gee:p, and that's just patched in Mantle, now, imagine full DX12 titles built ground up.:D

Got all Mantle titles bar Civ as it's not my thing, and DAO waiting until I complete others, performance really has been impressive in all of them and as I said I truly am exited for DX12, it's looking good and everyone finally getting Mantle/DX12 apis, Nvidia/AMD users are going to rave about it.:)

My one and only disappointment of Mantle personally is that (it's looking like)Rebellion walked away without adding mgpu support -not happy indeed, especially after talking it up big style on their SE3 Mantle fanfare(not interested who's fault it is btw:)), I tweeted them I don't know how many times btw and never as much as a reply:(

@Matt,
any chance you could get the team to look into mgpu support on SE3 and get some yes/no SE3 mgpu clarity?

What it really needs is to allow use of an overlay for measuring temps etc. One of the most important features for me.

I use AB OSD via my S4:

AfterBurner OSD- Unfortunately AfterBurner currently has no Mantle support, however you can install and run AfterBurner remote server and you can get almost all your OSD info displayed on your phone/tablet minus FPS and Vram usage.

Video instructions I found on how to set it up:

AMD is a company that fundamentally believes in technologies unfettered by restrictive contracts, licensing fees, vendor lock-ins or other arbitrary hurdles to solving the big challenges in graphics and computing. Mantle was destined to follow suit, and it does so today as we proudly announce that the 450-page programming guide and API reference for Mantle will be available this month (March, 2015) at*www.amd.com/mantle.

*

This documentation will provide developers with a detailed look at the capabilities we’ve implemented and the design decisions we made, and we hope it will stimulate more discussion that leads to even better graphics API standards in the months and years ahead.

*

Proud moments also call for reflection, and today we are especially thoughtful about Mantle’s future. In the approaching era of DirectX® 12 and the Next-Generation OpenGL Initiative, AMD is helping to develop two incredibly powerful APIs that leverage many capabilities of the award-winning Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

*

AMD’s game development partners have similarly started to shift their focus, so it follows that 2015 will be a transitional year for Mantle. Our loyal customers are naturally curious what this transition might entail, and we wanted to share some thoughts with you on where we will be taking Mantle next:

AMD will continue to support our trusted partners that have committed to Mantle in future projects, like*Battlefield™ Hardline, with all the resources at our disposal.Mantle’s definition of “open” must widen. It already has, in fact. This vital effort has replaced our intention to release a public Mantle SDK, and you will learn the facts on Thursday, March 5 at*GDC 2015Mantle must take on new capabilities and evolve beyond mastery of the draw call. It will continue to serve AMD as a graphics innovation platform available to select partners with custom needs. The Mantle SDK also remains available to partners who register in this co-development and evaluation program. However, if you are a developer interested in Mantle "1.0" functionality, we suggest that you focus your attention on DirectX® 12 or GLnext.

R.i.p Mantle or Mantle Evolved?

Mantle right now is a proprietary BETA API just to clear that up.:)

Khronos Group's new API Vulkan is based on mantle, with some changes to run on other hardware.

Vulkan might be the way to go, Microsoft will only do what they need to for PC Gaming, with no competition they will do nothing as Consoles are where the money is for them.
Mantle can't really provide that competition anymore as its one vendor specific.

'Mantle dead as we know it' SDK cancellation could be a hint that Mantle could be handed straight over as Vulcan?

There is your SDK access right there and AMD have indeed actually handed the keys straight over to Khronos like AMD originally stated?

PhysX is dead and is now part of GameWorks and is called PhysX Flex, which works with AMD hardware. They have moved on.

https://developer.nvidia.com/physx-flex

Very, very good news, and should have a dedicated thread to spread the word(hint), when's the first title coming?

Personally I compare what Mantle injected to Api's like Gsync injected to A Sync tech, they both got the ball rolling.

Eh, glNExt has started long before Mantle came along!
Vulkan is just a renaming of glNext because they feel they need to more strongly differentiate the name to avoid confusion since it wont be backwards compatible with OGL.

Khronos begins work on next-generation graphics standards

Straight from the horses mouth.

Khronos announced a call for participation today in a project to define a future open standard for high-efficiency access to graphics and compute on modern GPUs.

AMD hopes to put a little Mantle in OpenGL Next

Huddy told us AMD has done a "great deal of work" with the Khronos Group, the stewards of the OpenGL spec, on OpenGL Next. AMD has given the organization unfettered access to Mantle and told them, in so many words, "This is how we do it. If you want to take the same approach, go ahead." Khronos is free to take as many pages as it wants out of the Mantle playbook, and AMD will impose no restrictions, nor will it charge any licensing fees.

Don't know what the negativity is all about tbh, AMD fulfilled their promise and handed the keys to Khronos Group.

His link doesnt seem to seem to mention anywhere beta software cant be proprietary aswell.
Nvidia and AMD both at time have beta drivers can we assume these actually work for other venders and are not infact proprietary software?

The sole basis of the push on 'proprietary' by some in the case of Mantle is to tar with the same brush, AMD have a mountain to climb to get to the same bucket that Nvidia use./
