*Official* Antec P182 Case's,Builds,Modifications & FAQ's

Does anyone think it's worth replacing the stock case fans in this case? I'm thinking of getting some Sharkoon Silent Eagles 1000s to replace the Antec Tri-Cools. Are the stock fans decent, or would the sharkoons be noticeably quieter/perform better?

Also would I be better off buying a fan controller for them, or would controlling them via the motherboard work fine?

I am going to use Akasa 120mm Blue LED fans to replace the stock fans  Never used any stock fans that have come with cases, they don't seem to have as good cfm ratings as leading brands...;)

Alright, I think I'm settled on this case. My shopping list looks something like this then:

Antec P182 Case
4x Sharkoon Silent Eagle 120MM Case fans
Zalman MFC1 Plus Fan Controller
Akasa 20/24-Pin 30cm PSU Extension Cable
4-Pin 12V PSU Extension Cable (OcUK don't seem to sell any but I should be able to pick one up somewhere)

With the fan controller, when the fans can be adjusted to 5V, does this translate into 5/12 of the RPM, ie, I'd have a minimum of 833 RPM with the Sharkoon 2000s? If it is like that then I'm thinking the 2000s would be a better choice than the 1000s since they'd be more flexible.

Mmm, Silence :D

Excellent choice...:D Look forward to pic's...;)

well i have upgraded all the fans in this case to yate loons and even with them on full speed they are quieter than the stock ones at low and half speed i now have a fan controller too which brings the noise down considerably all i need to do is get rid of my crappy ocz stealthsteam psu for total silence.

Any pics "chezney"...:cool::D

Reviewed the new "mini" Antec P180/2 Case...

A mini version of the award winning P180/2 case for gamers on the move,

It might not be as small as your average Shuttle box, but it could be the next best thing for gamers who like to cart their hulking, high-end PCs around with them. It’s a mini version of Antec’s acclaimed P180 case, and it takes a microATX motherboard and still comes with a 200mm fan in the top.

In a nod towards the good old double entendre, Antec claims that ‘good things come in small packages,’ and describes the case as ‘a stylishly small enclosure’ that’s ‘perfect for gamers on the move.’ The company also adds that ‘you won’t believe the quality we’ve fit into this petite portable case,’ and it may well have a point if you look at the specs.

All you’re missing out on is a full-size ATX motherboard, but you rarely need all those 1x PCI-E slots and extra PCI slots anyway. As a result of the trimming, the mini P180 now has dimensions of just 212 x 436 435mm (W x D x H), compared with the original P180’s dimensions of 205 x 507 x 540mm (W x D x H), so it’s noticeably smaller. No details on pricing or availabilty in the UK have been released yet.

Here is my crazy cable mess......but hey lots of fans......

Have you got one or two 120mm fans in the centre bay connected..

Just a thought............
what is the point of connecting P180/82 Stock case fans to the motherboard?
They are two wire fans.

The Stock case fans use the molex connectors to power the case fans, the option to use the motherboard fan connectors as stated depend on the fans bought and the type of connectors supplied with them, if you have 2 pin fan leads you can get adaptors to convert them to molex.

I put together a pc for the first time over the weekend using the p182 SE. I was ill most of the time so I didnt do quite as good a job with it as I'd have likeed. In particular, the cable management is something that I intend to improve soon.

I'm very happy with the case. For the most part it feels very solid and well built. My only real problem was that the case door is made out of a thinner and noticably more flimsy plastic than the rest of the case. When I was manouvering the case during the build, the door moved back suddenly and one of the plastic hinges snapped right off. I managed to glue it back on, but it nevertheless still feels like a weakpoint of the case which I have to be careful with. Take it off whilst you build.

Some of the wiring was a little difficult but this was mainly due to the size and shape of the Tuniq Tower which made it slighly tricky to work around.

Anyway, on to the pics:

I'll grab some better pics of the insides when I go back to tidy the cables a bit. I think I might have made some slight changes after taking the internal pics, but its pretty close to how it all ended up.

Are the reflective panels prone to scratches if you polish them with a duster, I have seen some mirrored cases that if you polish them they leave small hair line scratches on the panels....

Did a bit of playing early to try and drop temps and I'm really surprised at the results :)
gaming temps before ;system 44 now 33C
8800 gtx 85-90 c now 70-75 c
the cpu is the same but at 38c I'm happy the pwm is still a bit high at 53c but as I'm not sure which part of my system this is its difficult to drop !
Any way this is what I did ;
1 cut away the grill on the rear fan to improve air flow .
2 removed all the rear slot grills
3 mounted the psu upside down and removed the plastic dividing the top and rear compartments to extract heat away from the gtx.

I was hoping for a little drop but wow 15c on my card is great
as a bonus its less noise now as my card fan dose not need to work so hard :D

Looking forward to pics..;)

Well here's my effort, not had chance to fully tidy up the cables, will get round to it someday.

Nice idea.. Two 120mm fans cooling the side of all PCI Cards, how did you attach fans to base of case? The clear cable sleeving you are using is a great way I have used before to keep all those loose cables all nice and tidy, not forgetting enhancing airflow as well ;) I did swap the type you have to a smaller threaded black spiral wrap, which made it a bit less noticable and gave it a stealthy look to the cases cable management, bought a metres worth for about a £1 from a local DIY Shop :D Again nice case M8..;) off to fit a 120mm fan to the base of my P182... Cheers.
