***Official Apple October 13 @ 18:00 BST iPhone Reveal Thread***

So the Apple store now allows you to ‘get ready’ for the iPhone 12 by allowing you to complete any credit agreement applications in advance. However this doesn’t appear to be an option if you select the iPhone 12 mini.

Is anyone able to go through the ‘get ready’ steps for the 12 mini?

Edit - just realised this is because the mini and 12 pro max are preorder from November, not October.

I'm out of contract with EE so I'll be upgrading from a 256Gb Xs to a 256Gb Pro, probably in blue.

I need to sit and do the maths and work out if it's cheaper to upgrade through EE or get the new phone through Apple. I'm currently getting a 30% friends & family discount from EE which in theory will drop off after I upgrade as my other half left there almost 2 years ago. However, I upgraded my iPad after she left and the discount was still applied. I guess I'll go through the order with EE and see if it mentions the discount.

USB-C would have been nice but I wasn't surprised that they didn't make the switch. I already have plenty of USB-C cables so wouldn't need to buy any more.

I can't believe the pro still has that ancient notch and a boggo refresh rate. I mean they really know how to milk their user base.

Thats why Apple doesnt care, because they know whatever they release an army of sheep will buy it regardless.

Yes, but only at 5w. It’s just a normal Qi charger they’ve slapped some magnets and a huge markup on. Why even bother supporting an open standard if you’re not going to use it? Ridiculous really.

Yeah i dont mind the airpods charging at the slower 5w, but as long as they charge its not completely awful

These are all things that exist on other phones and I was responding to someone effectively suggesting the iPhone 11 was very hard to improve upon and anyone expecting anything other than an incremental update was kidding themselves.

yeah thats more than fair enough. I think within the next 2-3 years at most, phones woud have essentially reached their peak as far as im concerned.

At the end of the day, if people aren't happy with what's on offer they need to start voting with their wallets.

3 months ago I had an Apple Watch 5, Gen1 Airpods and an iPhone X. Now I have none of them.

I don't need a millionaire tech CEO preaching to me about how their products only cost as much as 1 cup of coffee a day.

I was in a similar boat, I had a series 3 watch and ipad air last year but ive now sold them both. Only apple items I currently have are the airpods pro and iphone 7 plus

The issue is that (in America at least), Apple have the market sewn up and many people absolutely will not consider an Android. So when I read posts on reddit complaining about "I hoped Apple would do this but they didn't", those people don't then say "I'll go with android this year". Instead they say "Oh well I guess I'll just suck it up and buy the Pro Max 512Mb".

I disagree. Apple do things much slower than other brands because they hold themselves to a much higher standard. They could drop in a 120hz screen but maybe the calibration isn't quite there yet, or maybe it drops the battery by 1 hour, or maybe it needs more fine tuning in the software to have it work to their exacting standards. They don't just throw stuff into a phone because specs.

Flip flopping. At first I thought it worked out £20 a month cheaper but I was looking at the price of the phone by itself, not the AUP price.

Works out £2 cheaper than i am paying at the moment and it does double my storage capacity but for the sort of use I use, 64GB has been fine (I did have a 256 XS Max, 256 X and 256 7+) and I have no intention of getting a 5G sim any time soon...

The 5 inspired shape is really nice.. But I think I'd rather continue for 8 more months with the 11PM and own that phone outright then consider next years model.

Sensible Brain is saying don't upgrade. Tech brain is saying upgrade.

I agree... but the problem is a lack of competition. I’m not going to use android because I vehemently disagree with Google’s business model, but there is no other viable OS on the market to choose from. So I’m stuck with Apple until there are some viable choices.

What I like to do is break down my usage then look at the new phone and ask the question "Does this new phone make a noticeable and meaningful improvement to these things".

I said this in another place, but Apple are now just as keen to flog you product as Google. I get prompted to upgrade my iCloud storage whenever I use my phone. On Apple News, every other article is News+ exclusive. In the App Store, there's a dedicated tab for Apple Arcade. And let's see what happens when they release that Apple Watch Fitness program.

All of these things I mention are unavoidable advertising on a device I paid for, presented to me in apps I can't remove. Now you could say "aha, it's only Apple that have my data," but Apple are NOT your friend and they are NOT the good guys. They are a company making money. The only difference is that people choose to trust Apple because they project a "we're your friend" image.

If I did that I'd probably still be using my iPhone 6 lol. Whatsapp, snapchat, reddit, chrome, youtube and music. That's pretty much all I use a phone for. Haven't played a game on my phone in years and to me the camera has been good enough for years now (though I always welcome camera advances)

I just like having the latest and greatest but I feel the AUP has drawn me from upgrading every 2 years to upgrade each year.

I disagree. Apple are not surveillance capitalists. They don’t scrape your behaviour to train predication products that they then sell to advertisers. That’s the business model of google and Facebook and what I very strongly disagree with.

I'm using a 6S and it does a fine job. When you remove photography and gaming from the equation there really is little reason to upgrade.

I am very interested in how well Apple ProRAW will do, I love using my dedicated Fuji camera but it can feel like a chore sometimes to take it out on family trips.

Thats very true, however you're telling me the biggest company in the world with essentially an unlimited budget cant get this done in a year? Im sure they could have, but the probably just prioritized other things over it (essentially the camera as they do every year...)

AUP is not great, it kind of forces you to upgrade every year even if you dont want to. You are essentially renting a phone for a year for almost the full cost of the phone anyway

Best option is just to buy the phone outright, or just pay it off over 2 years with apple's finance option and only upgrade when you want to.
