*Quick question*

Before I start really fiddling around in the BIOS for an overclock to @3.0Ghz using the settings or similar to the ones Mansize_tissue posted a couple of pages back, I've quickly went into the BIOS and set the FSB to 450.

The BIOS is reporting the CPU freq at 3.16Ghz but TAT and CPU-Z report it as 2.7Ghz?:-

Why is that?.

As before, I'm a complete overclocking n00b, only thing I've ever done on previous motherboards is bump the FSB up.

You notice that the muli has dropped to 6. The CPU does this when it's idling to save power. It will switch to 7 in a split second when you load the cpu.

You can disable it in the bios if you want but it's no bother to leave it.

Hi chaps, I have a P5K premium and Q6600.

All was going very well, managed to get prime stable at 3.8Ghz. Upped the vcore from 1.42v to 1.5v and its pi 32mb stable at 4ghz. Prime is no go though, just get an instant reboot.

Now back at a previously stable 3.8Ghz + wee bit more vcore and I’m still getting reboots in prime.

Also each time I do a cold restart the system shuts down for a second, then powers back up by itself, I’ve never had a pc behave like this

Does anyone have this happen to them??

Cheers

Had my Asus P5K Premium just before xmass!
All the reviews say WOW!
To be fair it is a good board but a real bitch to get started!
Running a Samsung Spinpoint 500Gb SATA-11 no way could i get it up in AHCI mode
Managed to get Vista installed in Standerd mode ran like a pig Programs took 30 to 40 mins to install any apps?
Reading around it looks like Samsung Spinpoint had an issue with the Board,
So i ordered myself a Seagate they say they are the most compatable!
Still cant get it installed in AHCI Mode!!!!!
Installed Vista standard mode Ran all ok very fast even with Samsung drive as second drive.
I have a friend got the same issue as myself as we have got the same setup apart from ram and still same issues.
So for now i have it running IDE untill i can find a solution

what bios are you guys running on the P5K Premium? I just got the board and wondering which is a safe BIOS to update to :)

Oh and what is vdrop and vdroop? Always wondered >.<

I am using 0503 which is what it came with. After the 0602 bios there is quite bad vdrop and vdroop so I have not found the need to update yet. If you are going to be using a 45nm processor then you will have to update to the latest.

Vdrop- The amount of voltage decrease from what you set in the bios to what you get in windows. Example- set 1.4 in bios but only get 1.3 in windows.

Vdroop- The amount of voltage decrease that you get when the processor is put under load. Example- 1.4 before running Prime95 and 1.35 while running Prime95.

Please could someone post their bios settings for overclocking a Q6600 to approx 3.5GHz, I've read various o/c guides but not anything specific to the P5K Premium Wi-Fi

Thanks

what temps are u guys running at? Mines hitting around 43-45 this is with 1 small fan on the passive heat pipe cooler. Is this normal for this board as it seems quite hot?

Me too? But I hardly ever Cold boot my PC. My older P5B-Deluxe did the same but I didn't pay it much attention.

It's almost as if it is making a quick hardware adjustment and needs to power itself down for the settings to take place?

If you start-up the pc normally it just boots straight away. How many people unplug their PCs between use?
