Official Australian Grand Prix 2025 Thread - Albert Park Circuit, Melbourne - Race 1/24

We'll see how a race distance goes but based on the first qualifying you have to wonder if Red Bull will regret overlooking Tsunoda, Riccardo or even someone like Sainz and Bottas if they could ever have been an option.

Great start by Williams, hopefully they have race pace to back it up. They could be in for picking up a podium/win this season if those just ahead have issues with the weather or each other. I'd love to see that.

Obviously disappointed with Ferrari. I wasn’t expecting Lewis on pole or anything - first race in a new team and all that - but Charles should be a good indicator of their true quali pace and it looks like they’re behind Mercedes when all the testing and even practice sessions looked like they would be ahead.

Just got to hope their race pace is better and maybe they can do better in the wet (assuming it rains tomorrow).

Will be more than happy with a Lando and McLaren WDC though (yes, yes, it’s only qualifying of the first race, etc. :p)

Tsunoda should be Max's team mate....always thought that.
Well given Honda have washed their hands of him this will no doubt be his last season in F1.

Everyone getting a bit too excited over Lawson mishap..its one qualifying session it doesn't prove much at all.

Cracking first qualifying session, just caught the highlights.

I half expected Red Bull to find some pace on the Saturday; they often had a pretty ordinary looking Friday and seems they might not be as slow as they looked although Lawson is going to be under instant pressure if there's many more Q1 exits (albeit I know he had car issues in FP3).

Antonelli too can't have too many Q1 exits when Russell is in P4.

Ferrari must be pretty disappointed with 7th and 8th, great to see Williams and RB up there though, nice change.

I expect McLaren will run away with this (already getting 98 Hakkinen/Coulthard vibes for this race!) - although the weather will likely play a part.

ALBON !!!!! WHAT A LAP !!

Amazing to see the Williams cars up there, fantastic.

Carlos is adapting to the Williams a lot better than Hamilton is to the Ferrari - however I REALLY want to see Ferrari take the fight to McLaren.

In a perfect world this season would be a Ferrari Vs McLaren shoot out - and throw Mad Max in as the agitator with his insane bullying driving to keep it exciting & then we'll have a season of the gods :D:cry:

I want Norris to win this year though, he deserves it.

Time for the F3 Sprint replay, in which I have no idea who the drivers are. Nowhere near dedicated enough to get up for the feeder series races.

Saw some interesting data on the Ferraris in quali, looks like they were better than their positions suggest but they failed to out it together when it mattered. Had Hamilton put together his fastest sectors in a single lap he'd have been 0.12s off the same for Russell and 0.08s behind Max.

Work to do for Ferrari. Looks like Sainz may have not made such a downgrade!!

Lewis appears to be a tenth or two of Leclerc in qualy which is what I expected to be honest.

McLaren may well run away with both titles this year.

I was left almost totally lost as to who anyone is in F3 this year, seems to have been a huge turnover of drivers; F2 though has a huge amount of familiar names and faces!

The provisional grid has been posted, no penalties for anyone. Barman starts 20th - I thought drivers who couldn't set a time usually get punted to the pit lane? Mind you, I won't be surprised if he ends up there after repairs.

I usually find it's that way with F3 - the drivers good enough to remember get promoted to F2 and I don't follow anything below F3 enough to recognise anyone who is new.

I do enjoy seeing the children of drivers I used to watch race coming through though it does make me feel old.

Possible glimmer of hope that the Ferrari isn't as bad as this qualy made it look?

Leclerc:

"today we needed to sacrifice something for this weekend, i won't go into detail but it's the right thing to do, i'm not satisfied for today , but this isn't a tragedy , we don't have to make a miracle right at the start of the Season"

Very aggressive wet race setup maybe, that severely compromised their qualy?

Could make sense as if it's wet tomorrow, qualy won't really mean ****.

No go back and watch him last season yes at times he has the pace Perez did as well but it's other parts which are an issue.

Maybe this season with more experience he may gain those missing parts and then be inline for the seat.

Red Bull want a number 2 as well and I can see a lot of drivers not wanting to be Max lackey..

Lets see how the race goes people do well qualifying and then nothing in the race and reliability plus weather could play a big part.

The tifosi on Reddit are certainly puffing on this copium. Fingers crossed!

Well Leclerc must be referring to something. Might not be a wet weather setup, but they've clearly compromised something, for some reason (could be a technical issue they found perhaps too).

Toto and Stella both implied that that wasn't Ferraris true pace too..

Ferrari have backed off the rear wing to reduce drag, judging by their burning up the rears.

I hoped Williams would deliver a decent car, but wasn’t expecting both cars in the top 10 and Albon to be 6th.

Zak talked about having to perhaps "sacrifice" some pace on Saturday due to the weather as well; I'd imagine that all of the front 4 teams have to some degree taken into account the forecast; it would be pretty dumb not to.
