*** Official Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Thread ***

That rumbling due to nearby explosions and whathaveyou annoys me. I had to turn vibration off in the end.

P.S. I forgot to ask - in the PS3 beta you could actually REPAIR the crates with the engineer's repair tool. You couldn't in BC1 so I wondered if it was a bug or a "new" feature. Has anyone tried repairing the crates in this demo?

That screen shaking thing was terrible, I cannot be part of the game! I saw and heard no explosions.

Secondly... Errr... Regenerating health for everyone and no health display?! Step in the wrong direction imo.

I was really looking forward to BC2, but I am totally underwhelmed atm

I didn't like it at all.Feels quite slow to me(the character movement).
Plus I don't think i've ever died as many times in such a short space of time as I did in this game!At one point it kept spawning right next to an enemy,it did this about 5 times in a row,so he just killed me straight away:mad: Not even MW2 is that bad!

Does seem one of those games that really divides opinion. I can see why though. Personally the more I play the more I love it but it does have a lack of polish to a lot of the features.

To be fair Battlefield has always felt more 'sluggish' than the Call of Duty games. It's not as if it's something new to BFBC2.

I feel that the game could do with a bit of polish but in general I much prefer it to any other FPS on the Xbox.

My main wishes for the game are:

  • Health bar
  • More robust request system (request ammo/health etc)
  • Remove health regeneration - what's the point?
  • Add ammo and reload indicators to vehicles (tanks/helicopters/UAV)

I agree

I'd just like to add a 5-10 second delay between pressing the spot button. or though from looking at the beta fixes it seems this has already been done and didnt make it in to this build.

health regen isnt on in hardcore but I agree it should be off in normal as well

Edit: Seems there's only a reload indicator on the tank and UAV. No missiles remaining or reload indicator on the Helicopter. It stays on the list.

I tried repairing them after i noticed a health bar on them but it didn't work at all.

If the final game is like this I'm not even sure if I'm going to buy it, the videos made it look sweet and I've been looking forward to it but it's just a mega disappointment.

Minimap is terrible, you can't really make out what it's trying to show you, roads aren't marked out on it and you really can't get an idea of where things are because it's just a blurry mess. Also friendly and enemy markers on the minimap are very faint you have to look hard to see where people are sometimes.

Spotting is silly, all you have to do is point in the direction you think they are coming from and people you can't even see are lit up like Christmas trees. Also the markers on your actual hud that show above enemy heads are really faint, why do this!?

Health regen is pointless which idiot decided that it would be a good idea, it has totally gayed up the medic class, I used to feel good when healing people but now it's pretty much pointless. I guess some idiot thought "How can we make the game more like MW2" stupid gay blood spatters on the screen! Old health system was much better and made you rely on your squad much more.

Screen shake
, WHAT THE ****?!?! I'm just sat there minding my own business trying to shoot someone and i get nudged around making it almost impossible to shoot at anything, the worst part is that there's nothing anywhere near me exploding... TAKE IT THE **** OUT.

As other people have said it feels more sluggish than even BC1, switched between the two and BC1 seemed highly superior, movement felt a lot better. Increasing the sensitivity makes this a little better but it's still a step down from BC1.

The map in the demo is a bit meh, there's not much chance for good vehicle play.

Edit: lol @ the battlefield blog:

will feature Port Valdez, a new vehicle focused map
Don't make me laugh, you've lost your minds!

I don't seem to be getting points half the time for damaging vehicles.

Whats with my parachute not opening sometimes when I spawn, committing suicide as I spawn is not entertaining.

Where's the objective health bars, they only seem to display when I'm looking at the objective!

I wish DICE would delay this and make the necessary changes because at this rate it's a pale shadow of BC1. I actually feel a little depressed.

I can't say I've had any issues with the minimap.

I've actually come across times when I've tried to spot someone I can see through part of a bush and they don't get spotted at all. I believe Zensuji also said there's a delay in the spotting of enemies in a newer build.

I agree with the health regen. You don't get ammo regen, you don't get vehicle health regen, so why on earth do you get soldier health regen? If they wanted medikits to be an added bonus and not a necessity they should have given them to the Assault class and made the Medic a Support Gunner with ammo crates.

I'm fairly sure the screen shaking is bugged in the demo. I've had the same problems as you occasionally and it doesn't seem to be regular enough to be game design.

Vehicle damage (30pts) only happens after you do so much damage to the vehicle. I also feel the opposite to you with regards to vehicle usage on the map. You can totally dominate if you use one properly.

As with the screen shake the parachute not opening is a bug (and not one I've come across, fortunately).

There's no denying that there's changes that need to be made (mainly adding things that seem to be missing from previous games) but I still think its a very good game :)

Let me show you what I mean about the minimap:

Here's BC1:

As you can see it's inside a "base" and the roads, buildings and objectives are clearly marked, also of note is the fact that buildings on the map are actually 3D:

Now in BC2, look at the screenshot, there are plenty of buildings and roads surrounding the player:

But none of that is really visible on the minimap:

No clear roads or buildings, it's just a blurry aerial image.

The map in BC2 kind of looks prettier and more detailed but it doesn't have a lot of useful information for me.

The minimap in this earlier version of the game looks much better:

I can see roads, and the markers on the map are really vivid not so transparent that you can hardly see them. Buildings still seem to be missing.

I thought that was because your parachute had been shot? I've noticed when parachuting in that there are some explosions going on - I presumed one of the defenders is firing an AA gun and it's damaged my chute causing me to fall and die.

Thought I’d post a little more feedback, now that I’ve given the demo some more play time:

Players

This is a bit individual I know and is probably not helped by the fact there’s going to be far more people playing the demo, and the 360 version when it’s released, than the PS3 – but of the countless games I have played in the beta and the hours I have put into the demo I only have one conclusion; there’s a far higher concentration of idiots on the 360 version!

I know Battlefield has always had its problems with certain types of players, there’s something that draws them to vehicles (maybe the lure of racking up huge kill streaks?), but seriously, I was working with a couple of quad mates holding back waves of attackers, each of us taking a role in the vehicle, when I decide that I would jump out to fix it – cue some random team mate jumping in and driving away. Vehicle gets wasted as do my squad mates! Just an example, there were other things too.

I don’t want to sound like an elitist **** but I have always found that the calibre of player on the PS3 has always been higher than on my 360, more so when it carried a high price tag as the kids were kept at bay. God that makes me sound like an arse, but I’m not going to butter up my experience to avoid not offending anyone. Sorry.

UAV

What a total joke this thing has turned into now – on the beta it was pretty cool, you would fly to a nice tactical spot, like behind a mountain, then simply pop-up and fire at your target, before dropping back into cover. It put me in mind of my old Apache vs Havock days on the PC, and actually felt like there was a bit of skill to using the thing. But what have they gone and done now? Given the bloody thing a machine gun!

Bar the last two flags I managed to stay in the UAV for an entire game, and whilst I wasn’t doing a huge amount of spotting, the machine gun ensured I was third overall – great if you want to rack up your stats, but the thing just seems too overpowered now; the gun doesn’t appear to overheat either!

Other than these points, I am really enjoying the game, none of its blatantly stupid omission (as others have mentioned) really impact the gameplay for me, it’s still spot on and in my opinion leaps ahead of MW2 in terms of player enjoyment.

Im a sniper through and through and cant remember the last time I was lower than 2nd on the leaderboard. I've mastered the headshots and the drop its brilliant! Loving this game.

The spotting is a bit varied, I dont think it is consistently annoying as you claim skyfall. Ive spotted plenty of people only to have them lose their relatively faint red arrow and dissapear seemingly un noticed to the back of our base or whatever.

Just so you guys know the spot spamming wont be in the final game. They tweaked it and it didnt go in to the demo build

Also they just tw@tted to say the hardcore mode will be double damage.
