*****Official BBQ Thread - Suns out, Buns out!*****

After watching a few more comparison videos, the Chef iQ one seems to consistently come in the top 2-3, particularly when price (and availability in the UK) is taken into consideration, the Meater seems a bit hit & miss, and I couldn't find any decent in depth reviews of the others I listed, so I went ahead and ordered it (ended up going for the 2 probe kit for £71).

Just done a quick test cook with it, just a couple of chicken breasts in the oven (hunters chicken), and I'm impressed - probably the most tender bit of chicken I've cooked in a long time; I tend to err on the side of caution so probably end up slightly overcooking a lot of the time.

The app is super easy to use, literally 5 taps to get started: set up cook > Pick the meat > pick the cut > pick the cooking method > start. Then just following the instructions.

Looking forward to some nice bits of lamb and beef on the BBQ over the weekend now :D

Provisions for tonight's BBQ

I tried the infamous Kelly Bab recipe for the first time on Sunday. Using the rotisserie makes for a very relaxed BBQ, not much to do over than keep an eye on the temperature with the odd tweak of the vents. Really tasty result and I think it would be ideal for a range of tastes as it's not spicey.

I thought I'd taken a picture but can't find one, so obviously didn't!

In the look out for a new BBQ, i have a nearly 10 year old weber 57 kettle which i still going good so more off a nice upgrade than a need i suppose. The bbq has been outside in all weather with no rust, impressive :)
I've only ever cooked using coal so not sure i'm adverse to gas or not.
I only bbq in the summer in hot weather but looking at maybe creating a covered area outside i can bbq more often and sit out under cover in all weather.

Looking at the following;
Weber 57 mastertouch £215 - did look at the premium but wasn't sold on the lid
Weber 67 mastertouch £480 - Looked at this today, although it seems quite a bit bigger i could just get the 57 and some new wire racks for my existing for cheaper
Weber Spirit EP 435 £700ish - Looks pretty decent just not sure on gas
Weber Genesis 425s Ex Display £1100 - This looked and felt really impressive. Not sure on value and what this gives me over the spirit for example but seems something that would last a life time.
Weber Genesis E-425W £1099 - can't quite tell the difference from the above apart from it doesn't have the red knob in the sear section?
Masterbuilt 545 - Not come across these, looked ok and was around £500 just not sure on brand/life span
Char-Broil Gas2Coal 4 burner £700 @ John Lewis - We looked at this in store, panels seem a little flimsy, similar to above not sure on the brand but maybe best of gas and coal (or maybe **** at both?)

Come across a brand called Napolean but not seen them in person and no idea how they compare.

Any suggestions/recommendations? Not sure on what costs for gas supply is but presumably cheaper than coal to run.

would recommend a kamado - i bought one from ynni
hardly used the weber since - the ynni does indirect cooking brilliantly especially slow cooks and i have also used it for pizzas - little slower than my ooni oven but good nonetheless. have recently bought a new grate so i can cook direct stuff like steaks closer to the coals

What's wrong with the 57 kettle you already have? You haven't mentioned your needs for functionality etc.

Honestly not much - Handle's damaged, grids are a bit tatty and the tray underneath the BBQ is deformed.
I'll likely keep it unless family member wants it.

As for needs to be able to cook for 8-10 occasionally and cook for 4-5 more frequently. I tend to find i have to do a few lots of food and keep them warm in the oven which is a bit of a faff. It wouldn't be too bad if i could mix the food up but kids and my mum won't eat anything thats touched any sort of sauce/spice.

If i got the Mastertouch i would run both bbqs
If i get one of the gas ones i could get away with a single cook i think

The Weber Summit Kamado is a beaut, never used one but if you're considering budget that high then it would be a great choice.

I love my Kamado Joe classic II, definitely a great option if budget goes that far too.

Gas is for fannies.

Thanks for the suggestion will do some reading up.
I have a feeling i glanced at this at the weekend and thought it was some sort of smoker or something rather than a normal BBQ. They had lots of the Kamado bbq's there, one was over 2k and was pretty much person sized.
If any of live near cumbria or are visiting the lakes its worth a wonder into hayes garden centre, they've got a large selection
:) Re the Gas bbq's, never used one always toyed with the idea but not sure on the lack of bbq smell/taste. Thought was if i was going to get one i'd spend a bit to at least get a good varient.

Most of my family buy bbq's at b n q or the range type places which will usually rust

Unsure if this belongs in here or home & garden.

Looking for a gas bbq. The plan is to build a decent outdoor kitchen when our house is ready and so looking for a relatively “built in style”

Seen these 2 and whilst they’re a lot more than I’d have liked to spend. They look nice which is certainly a factor

I probably “could” just buy any freestanding bbq and build a kitchen around it, but the above would look a lot better.

Is there anything specific I need to be looking for with gas? I’ve historically always had cheap £30 kettle style barbecues and currently use the small Weber Go Anywhere

Terrible time of year to be buying one, but is the Weber 5755 still the 'best' option from their range? I recall from owning one a while back it has proper stainless steel grates, not the plated ones from the 5750 and down the range.

Big K Dura still the go-to fuel? Or anything else decent? Not looking for smoking options, this would be for direct/indirect cooking.
