*****Official BBQ Thread - Suns out, Buns out!*****

must be the briquettes i bought. i swore never to use them again. they were out of homebase.

i stick to big k from waitrose now. it's night and day difference.

Honestly, do yourself a favour and give heatbeads a try, they burn really cleanly, none of that horrible smell or smoke when lighting them and they are simple to light!!

I love Heat Beads! If you shop around, you can generally get them at a decent price too. I've found about 3/4 of a 4kg bag will easily give me 6 hours plus.

I treated myself to a new door for my WSM. The original door is just a bit crappy although the leaks don't really affect the temperatures, the new door just looks so much better!

Can you recommend any sellers for heat beads? The Range are about £7 a 4Kg bag, but if you know anywhere that works out much cheaper that would be great. Best I've found is 20kg with free shipping for £32, but at £7 for a 4Kg bag from local shop it's only £35 for 20Kg, and I can buy more when needed.

Dave Clarke at http://www.morreys.co.uk sells 3 x 10kg bags of Heat Beads for £12.85 each + £5.85 shipping (£44.40 total). That works out to £1.48/kg compared to £1.60/kg at The Range. You'll need to call him to order but he's a really great guy to deal with.

I've used BBQ World and Wow BBQ recently depending on who is cheaper, generally about £48 for 30kg. Morreys are a few quid cheaper again though so I'll bear those in mind next time I order.

I’m after a favour if anyone has a tape measure handy and a Weber premium 57cm kettle? If so could you measure the height from the floor to the grill please? I’m lookong to build a grill station and need to know what height to built it at to house the kettle. Thanks.

I may have gone overboard on the meat..

Are they the same size as a Master Touch? If so I can measure mine.

Yes they’ll be the same height I think thanks.

Nothing looks overboard there to me haha

Pretty much 825mm to the lip of the bottom bowl depending on where I measure it on my wonky patio. The actual grill sits about 55mm lower than the lip.

Recently we've been trying the ribeye and sirloin with the bone in. £15-20 for the piece but OMG and it will feed two for a couple of days.

Probably sacrilegious in this thread, but could you recommend me a few decent gas grills? Preferably not something gigantic.

(I ummed and aahed over which charcoal BBQ to get last summer and didn't guy anything. I just want to get something to cook on asap so we can start cooking outside while we have this lovely weather.)

With a chimney starter, lighting a charcoal BBQ is no hassle at all really. I quite often fire it up in the evenings to cook the odd thing on it.

Gas also has the downside of that ideally you need 2 gas cylinders to hand with the second as a back up. Charcoal is much easier to get a hold of.

I once saw someone use an electric bbq the George foreman one and I thought what is the point in that. At least with has there is a flame and you can use smoking chips, etc.

I personally having used charcoal would never use gas. I can have it ready to go inside 20 minutes using a chimney starter.
