*****Official BBQ Thread - Suns out, Buns out!*****

lol @£350 .. sorry but why ? the grill area is so small you have to stack it ?
It's always going to cost something to use quality hardware no matter how small.

RE lighting briquettes, the stove sounds like a good idea but not that great if you have to run it for 10 minutes. Seems like a waste of fuel. I always manage to get mine going (15-20 briqs) after about 10 mins just using 2 waxy firelighters, one placed at the bottom, then add half the coals, then add another then the rest of the coals. The second catches after a few mines and you get them all hot pretty quick

@Doobedoo what fire lighters do you use ? if liquid or gel .. put a layer on the bottom coals then stack a pyramid with rest of coals more liquid fuel ... light the fuel should burn for a good 10 mins ..
after 25 mins spread out the coals all coals that are not lit just put on top .. 5 mins later every thing should have a ash coating ... you then start to cook .
the lit coals will last a good hr so loads of time to cook what you want ..
if you need more time throw a few more coals on it after 20 mins of so .
Weber starter cubes. Previously I left them in the starter for longer but I decided to Chuck em on earlier because I wondered if I was causing the issue by burning them through too much.

I’ll have another go latter as I got a steak to cook. It’s all a learning curve I guess.

Have put in a Turner & George order, no doubt will try the others too!

Ive always wondered about getting some meat online, but seems strange to do so, being fresh food and all. Not got any butchers around my way anymore either.

Please let me know how you rate them, also what delivery service do they use, is it their own delivery courier or external like DPD?

It is DPD. It is a bit odd. I have a butcher I really love but not easy for me to use them under lockdown

I might place an order as well soon, just to see what its like. Thinking about it, it's not that odd actually, because all the food we buy from a supermarket has to travel from somewhere.

If I order, I will get some steaks for the BBQ I think, like ribeye or sirloin and maybe some burgers.

Compared to the butchers I've found locally, they're a class above. I've used them countless times and the quality has been excellent. Their Blue Label burgers are my go to burgers now and if you really want to treat yourself, the Galician steaks are amazing!

I cooked some steak just on the chimney starter the other week, worth a go if you never have before

Nice! Guess it works the same as the vortex.

You don't have to leave it running for that long, you could do less than a minute and it'll be started then leave it to it, I've done 3 gas canisters in something like 18 months and got 4 of them for 99p so not exactly expensive and just so much easier, and doesn't matter the weather.

Cheers @garnett had the same recommendation from a friend just after posting.

Well I had another and it worked much better so I think the mistake I’ve made is making sure a have enough charcoal and let it cook in the starter a little longer.

It never hurts to use more than you think you need. At the end of the cook, just close down the vents and use what's left next time. :)

Yeah, I might get the black label burgers first, they do look nice though, but unsure how fatty them blue label ones will be.
