Plot:

The player-controlled Agent roams over Pacific City, which has become infested with urban-gang warfare, assisting the Agency in the battle for Pacific City against numerous crime lords who control the city. A recent article from Game Informer magazine stated that Pacific City is infested with mutants from the research facility in the first Crackdown. These mutants have over run most of the former Shai-Gen territory and completely over run the city at night. The remaining civilians, forming a group called The Cell, revolted against the Agency and the mutants. The Agents are tasked with sabotaging key Cell structures and raiding underground mutant tunnels.

Gameplay:

The game is modeled similarly to its predecessor Crackdown, a third-person shooter in open world gameplay. The player character is a super-human officer for the city-funded "Agency", known simply as the "Agent". This time around, increased levels of customization for the character are allowed, unlike the presets offered before. Along with that, the orbs from last time are coming back, but the powers are expanded and enhanced, i.e, the Agility Skill allows the Agent to jump higher than in Crackdown, and provides a 'dash' maneuver, as well as opening up a special helicopter. Like Crackdown, the game will allow for on-line co-operative play in the main game, but will now support up to four players. The game will also feature competitive multiplayer modes for up to sixteen players.

I know an "official" thread is a bit early, but personally... I can't wait - glad to see the orbs are back, not normally a fan of collectables but really liked them in this - I also read their are online orbs as well... though not sure on the renegade orbs that run away from you!!

Just hope it feels the same as the first one :D

The fact it has the same map, and what appears to be mostly the same mechanics I am sure it will be

Somewhat of a Crackdown 1.5 then 2 in some cases... still the first was superb so I am happy with that!

What really? Haven't read anything about this, but if it has the exact same map, then...huh?

Yup - it's the same city - obviously visually updated but basically locations etc... all identical - part of me is ok with that, another part thinks it's a bit lazy

Wasn't that keen on the first one, but watched on trailer for this and pre ordered, at the worst if I don't like the demo (unlike R* games there was a demo for Crackdown so I assume there will be for the 2nd) then I can always cancel at a later date :)

Yup - as far as I know there will be a demo - they did some viral marketing that allowed early access to one - so fingers crossed! :)

Alrik - really? Thanks, didn't know that!

I think I spent more time sitting on the motorways popping tires and watching cars flip than I did playing the actual "story" on the first one! That's the main thing I want from the second, more of a story and lengthy less repetitive career mode.

You may be dissapointed then...

That’s not to say Crackdown 2 is a terrible game. No, that couldn’t be farther from the truth, in fact, it is a definite improvement over its predecessor, but it feels largely similar and I’d probably go as far as to say that the mission structure is more repetitive now than it was in the first. If you’re looking to play Crackdown 2 this coming July, you most definitely won’t want to pick it up for its mission structure... well, that’s if the first two or three hours are indicative of the rest of the game.

This may be a bit more refreshing to some of you:

Traversing the world offers the same feel as the original game. Players start with a sluggish Agent, who gains abilities by defeating enemies and collecting the game's scattered orbs -- 925 orbs to be exact. Orbs are split into various categories: standard and renegade agility orbs, driving orbs, and hidden orbs; and Xbox Live-only orbs that require at least one co-op partner to be in your game to unlock. Attempting to alleviate the frustration players had with locating the final orbs in the first game, Crackdown 2 features a HUD tracker mechanic somewhat similar to the shard detection system in inFamous. Tapping up on the D-pad flashes dots of orbs in the player's radius on the mini-map.

*Sigh*

Pro's:

Collecting stuff is still fun

Had some fun mashing my way through several hundred freaks.

Con's

Combat is ****, if it's easier to run up to someone and kick them than wrestle with the aiming system then you've got a **** combat system. The auto lock locks onto anything but the enemy, frequently barrels 30 yards behind them.

Ugly, somehow looks worst than the first

The world is irrritating, can't move anywhere without being shot. Still got the same ridiculous AI that can shoot you no matter the distance as long as they can see you, they also instantly detect you even if you're 120 ft in the air.

Gameplay is lacking, just seems to be the same as the first, go here clear the area. Repeat.

Massively disappointing :(

Agree with most of it, especially the camera and locking onto everything but the person you want!!

That said, I don't think these games are about the story or the dynamic missions, they are quite literally a sandbox, it was awesome fun playing co-op just ****ing about with my housemate throwing things around, using the UV Shotgun to play keepy-uppy with and generally mucking about in the big sandbox.

Still a day one for me (but I just loved the first!)

I finished it last night (had in since last Thursday) and with well over 400 orbs collected, I can safely say they're definitely not all in the same places. Yes, some will be very close to where they were previously, but with the changes to the buildings through damage and what not, the majority seem to be in very different places to before. The addition of Renegade Orbs which run away from you is just genius, some taking some real skill and determination to collect.

My review will be online shortly, but the overall summary is that if you enjoyed the first game, you'll enjoy the sequel. 8/10 for me.

Make sure you post your review link up :)

Got it last night and played an hour or 2, still trying to decide if it was worth the purchase, feels clunky in some elements, but I'll push on and see how it goes I guess!

Did you play the first?

In my opinion it's one of those games that is less about story and more about just playing about and is much more suited to co-op.

The story is pants really and the missions are all the same and all pretty easy - but once you get your character up a bit and can start scaling buildings and gliding around, flying helicopters and stuff it becomes a lot more fun.

Lots of ingenious things can be done too, for example the stunt rings... get a Co-Op partner to throw you through them, or for the ones with multiple rings - get a Helicopter, get a vehicle and throw a mag grenade on each so one player can fly the chopper carrying the other in the car through the stunt rings.

2 walls... mag grenade on each, and on a car... home made sling shot :)

I understand the first DLC (ToyBox) will bring back a keys to the city mode which the first had which basically the game + cheats, so you could turn off the public, be a super agent and just play about.

I also found the MP to be quite good, albeit basic, but could see some introduction of team based games going really well - capture the flag on an epic scale!

Yes, when your strength gets to Level 5 you can "pound the ground" as it where by holding B in the Air.

I have yet to play Co-Op so can't confirm the first part - my housemate works shifts and isn't off until Sunday and not a lot of folk on my Friends List have it - was hoping to get the remaining 80 Live orbs so I am fully orb'd up

Gave the first game a fair amount of time but it never really clicked for me, it seems that theyve just made the same game again without fixing any of the problems from the first game. I really cant workout why they bothered, this is a load of old arse .

I think it's a different team - but I loved the first, so am glad it's like that.

Each to their own of course though :)

Can anyone tell me if you can use the choppers later in the game to get those high up orbs? I have done my best but some are impossible for me to get. I have the wingsuit, but even so, it's frustrating leaping from the highest point I can get to on the Agency Tower to miss a orb that's about 2 miles away by a couple inches!

You dont need the Chopper for any of the orbs though - all are doable without - though with the Agency Tower does have a condition...

SPOILER

The tower grows once you have detonated all the beacons allowing you to reach the random super high Agility Orb.
