*** Official DCS World Thread ***

There's an updated weather mod now available for DCS:

It allows:
  • Generation of a defined preset to your own preferences. I'm not a meteorologist, so I don't see myself using this that much
  • Take live Metar data from seemingly anywhere in the world
  • Create a random preset
All of the above can then be imported into missions using the mission editor.
So it's very easy and fast to use, and adds a whole bunch of new and different options.

What's not to like.

Anyone on here using the Winwing kit?

I've got the F15EX thottle and the F16 stick with shaker kit, and some pedals, and set of cams on the way.

I could do with some hints on the simpro profile side of things as I'm only running the basics at the mo.
I've also got Streamdeck mini's on the throttle and stick for extra buttons if needed..

The Atmos-X thing does look very cool, and if I build a one off mission I'll certainly try using it.

Trig... streem decks / button boxes are great, consider making your own, they're relatively easy.
This YT video got me started, but there are loads more tutorials out there now
Afraid I can't help with the WinWing, I'm VKB for my sins

I created a bunch of different presets in ATMOS X yesterday, to cover variety of different weather types. Seems that it's fine to do that and then just load the preset via the mission editor.

Worked great. Post that, out in the Gulf in a Mirage F1BE on a runway strike. Early morning mist, ffb and rumble. It was about as immersive as I've ever managed in DCS. Fabulous

I need an excuse to buy the Virpil FFB stuff when it’s out so thought I should try a sim. I used to love playing them as a teenager. I’m not really sure why I haven’t in many years.

I’m not really interested in multiplayer stuff. I am not good at dog fighting and basically I have no technical knowledge. I understand pretty much none of the instrumentation.

Will DCS cater for my single player taste so is there another game might be better off with the last thing I played with modern (now not) was Janes USAF with my Saitek Cyborg 3d stick lol.
Ones that actually teach you how to fly etc would be good too.

I was going to get some pedals too, but as I don’t play and have no intention of getting a rig I don’t think the angle of them will be comfortable with the use at my desk (Virpil Falcon)

Falcon 4.0 plus Benchmark Sims mod is arguably a better single player experience. Graphics not quite as shiny but the dynamic mission generator is much better than anything DCS has to offer

Not the same Falcon 4.0 that was out in the late 90s??
I have a memory about that, there was a copy in the reduced bin at Macro. Then in the car I opened it and there was a pc gamer demo disc inside because someone obviously swapped it.

Will check it out though cheers.

DCS has the 'Flaming Cliffs' series of aircraft (derived from Lock On: Modern Air Combat) which are far less complicated that the regular offerings. There's a bundle of them available for $30... https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/bundles/flaming_cliffs_2024/

The individual planes can be had for $7.50, but also have a two week trial. Given that DCS is free, you can check it out without spending anything.

Got a guy on ebay/etsy knock up some mounts for them, got one set on the stick and one set on the rear of the throttle.
I could probably have knocked something up myself given I have a 3d printer, but this was the easy option..

Download the basic game, see how you get along with it, then get FC if you want extra planes, there is also the trial side of things where you can try most modules for a 2 week period, but that preiod resets every 6 months or so, so you can basically rotate the trial modules and then pretty much fly for free, plus theres community mods, the Scooter etc, not sure which of those require certain other models as prerequisites...
