:D

I remember Lotus, just before they ended their last stint in F1. They were slow, unreliable and basically a shambles. In their final years, they were like a terminally diseased dog and when they finally announced their departure from F1, it was a relief to all.

While I agree that Schumacher will be sub-par, I still feel that a MS who is at about 96% of his former self (which I think he will be), is still enough to beat Rosberg. The only drivers who he is likely to struggle against, in the same car, are the absolute top line (Alonso, Hamilton and possibly Vettel).

Remember MS had supreme ability which many drivers tried to beat, but rarely managed it unless they had superior equipment.

Only 2 more days to go gentlemen, till the race weekend begins.

You think everyone will one-stop at every race?

The general concensus is yes, that will happen. The testing has shown that the tyres can last a good 50 laps. The only reason drivers will pit will be to change from one compound to the other, as they still have to use both. But I can see only 1 stop being made, the only difference will be when based on which compound they start on.

Start the race on soft, do 40%, change to the hard, do 60% of the race.

Start the race on hard, do 60%, change to the soft, do 40%.

So in a theorestical 100 lap race all the soft tyre starters would stop on lap 40, and all the hard tyre starters will stop on lap 60.

Its going to suck. The whole 'be kind to your tyres' thing is rubbish if there is enough room in the tyres life cycle to allow for you to destroy a set really quickly, but still only need 1 stop in a race.

Eg, if you are kind to your tyres, the softs last 30 laps, and the hards 50, but if you thrash the hell out of them you will only get 20 from the softs and 35 from the hards, but the race is only 55 laps, then why would you want to take it easy? Go on the ragged edge and have the same number of stops.

Being kind to your tyres has little advantage if it doesnt buy you one less stop.

Hopefully they will realise this and engineer the tyres for 2011 to mean that there life cycles are tweaked so that mashing them means you have to stop twice, whereas looking after them means you only stop once...

Duke what do you think if we all edited our own Prediction posts and put the points that each driver\team got after each race?

May spice things up a bit :)

ah but then we cant quote each other on our predictions towards the end of the season as it could mask subtle changes by updating the points....

The general concensus is yes

And how often has the general consensus been right regarding tyres of late? No-one saw the Monaco problems coming last year, and only Button was able to get around them to any decent effect because he's - gasp! - easy on tyres.

Seriously. Even the Autosport season preview this year has Monaco down as a track with low tyre wear. Well, if it's so easy on tyres then what the flying **** happened to Vettel last season? 'cause I'm pretty sure he had tyre trouble. As did many others out there.

If your dire prediction regarding strategy plays out (and I really hope it doesn't), I do think brakes could still pose an interesting problem. Webber cooked his in Singapore last season, and with more starting weight on the car it will have thrown them a curve-ball (fighting the urge to stick a "for sure" on the end of that sentence just to wind y'all up :D). And they're back at Montreal this season, a track that is traditionally murderous on brakes.

Also it doesn't take into consideration the heat of some of the tracks. I reckon with the weight of the cars we could see scenarios where tyre wear goes right up on the hotter abrasive tracks meaning extra stops will be faster.

I'm 100% sure there will be many occassions on the various circuits where a team starts to eat through tyres. They made tyres that would last over half a race in 97 but it didn't stop them turning up at barca in the heat and some teams having tyres blister to **** in 3 laps.

Very interested to see how the tyre wear plays out.

Hmm isn't that covered by the Fantasy F1 league thing?

It's not good to edit predictions. Its best to keep them as is and as the season progresses we get to see how right/wrong we were.

Should have added first driver to run out of fuel :D

Will be interesting to see if anyone is that marginal. Trouble is these days if a driver farts they bring out the safety car so that should help save some fuel in every race ;)

Which is the track that will be most marginal on fuel for power and distance?

Good suggestion on the fuel one, but I'm sure unless a team makes a huge balls up of it, they can save fuel quite easily if required? So doubt any will stop. A bit like the potential issue with the Renault engines for RB last year - they just needed to manage them a bit more carefully? (telling you how to suck eggs here I know :D)

Ah we should have so badly! (bets are on the merc's trying to get a little extra out of the car too early...)

My bets are on Monza, Montreal and Silverstone just as Montreal and Monza are a lot of straights with a few corners attached and Silverstone is generally fast corners, all of which benefit from going flat out on.....
