Jumped in the McLaren to see how much faster I could go ... went a full second quicker in 1 lap without pushing too hard.

I like to keep things simple, so I tend to use the fastest preset from the engineer menu. Then I do a run and see where I need to tweak the last gear for maximum top speed. If I need more grip in the corners or more oversteer/understeer then I tweak as I go along.
But start with the fastest preset and see where you go from there.
hope that helps a little.Oh and stay away from auto gears and abs it only slows you down.
Well using a xbox controller i will fail hard if i don't auto gear. I only use auto-gear, med tc, and corner guide though, so not completely on auto-pilot

wow for some reason in a maclaren i can get 1:42 but in a lotus i can only manager about 1:46 lol
