Official Final Fantasy 12 Discussion thread

all the characters will be the same if you take them down the same path on the license board. the bad thing about leveling in FF is your characters not in use dont get leveled, which ive hated in every FF game. the good thing about 12 is that all the chars are basically the same and are made unique through the license board.

so pick the 3 chars you find most interesting and use them, and just ditch the other 3 because you can shape your chars into anything you want.

i personally have always preferred melee to magic, and only use magic when i really have to. i dont really see your point with the license board and weapons, just take in mind that each direction of the both (generally) includes certain types and weapons and that may help you decide what weapon types to choose :)

ive finished the game now and i really enjoyed it, the story seems weaker than the other FF's ive played but i really like the new battle system :D

Yeah I thought that too. The story could be good but there just isn't enough of it. In the others there's pretty much constant storytelling going on. But in XII there's a "world map" journey that can take an hour or so, followed by a dungeoun that could take about 2 hours, then a 5 minute or so cutscene at the end. The pacing is all wrong.

I'm less than impressed with it to be honest. Perhaps I need to spend more time levelling. Psyk : My FF Collection *is* going up tomorrow given that I've received a delivery from Hong Kong today :D

:D

I completed it last week. Still got plenty of side quests to do though, so I'm going back to it.

Finished it last year and clocked around 125 hours on it. I liked the battle system and voice acting, but hated the story, characters and the setting of the game. For me FFXII was the last nail in the coffin for the series and I wont be playing FFXIII.

After Hironobu Sakaguchi left Sqaure the series has gone stale so I will be having a go with Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey instead when they eventually get released over here :)

Im on hold at the mo, havent got the mem card adaptor for my PS3 yet and my other PS2 is at my mums house! Got to about 100hrs so far just been doing side quest etc been fun, some of the hunts are now getting hard and im at level 64. One thing i dont like so much is how your reserves hardly seem to gain exp so i constantly have to keep swapping in and out members to keep about the same level.

^If thats your problem just equip them with the double exp accessory and put them into battle alone that way they get the full exp to themselves and then its doubled :) depending on where you do it you can get around 20,000 exp per monster.

good advice :)

I have done that like i said i still think your other party should level up at maybe not the same rate but a lot quicker than they do. Still think its excellent though story is ok not great but i kinda forgive that as im so busy doing all the side quests at the moment. I was trying to get the other fishing rod cant think what it is called at present.

Finally started playing it again. I'm at Tchita Uplands now, just wasting time leveling up and getting some valuable loot.

A tip for people still playing it: When possible, try to buy 'Thief Cuffs' which give you a better chance to steal more valuable and rare loot from foes. Also, once you get to Tchita uplands you can steal the accessory called 'Embroidered Tipped' that doubles your EXP points earned. You can steal it from the Coerls (panther like things) once you're there.

Another tip: Buy all the hunter books (monographs) from the Bazaar shops. Their description is something along the lines of "Fast text dating...". These books make foes drop valuable loot.

Since I've bought the Thief Cuffs, and got all the books (bar one really expensive one) I haven't had any money problems. I was really struggling to make money before!

i am a major fan of final fantasy series, but this games is not very good!

the story is non existent! the combat is excellent, but again NO STORY!

im up to raithwalls tomb (i think) just after beating demon wall!

does this game get better?

Funny this thread should be revived while I'm taking on Yiazmat and his 50 million HP.

Unfortunately the story doesn't really get much better. It sucks because everything else about the game is excellent, but it's let down on such a crucial point.

I stopped playing when I picked up my PS3. I couldn't stomach playing through the early parts again, and still haven't picked up a memory card cable. I suppose I could pick one up and continue, though after such a long intermission, I might as well start again anyway :P It probably looks quite good in 1080p too :p

Whats funny is that i have beaten yiazmat and the strongest summon (i forget the name now), yet haven't actually bothered to complete the game. I guess this does show how great the gameplay is, its not often i spend 10 hours kicking the crap out of the same bad guy just to say i did it. I've also got the tournesol, masamune + genji armor. Basically everything except the Zodiac spear because of thier utterly stupid treasure system.

However, it does show how utterly awful the storyline is... or more that there isn't one. I imagine i could plough through the final dungeon and whoop the final boss in 15 mins, however i don't really care. Doubt i'll ever complete it.

I dont think the storyline is actually that bad lol, Obviously im in the minority. But i'd say its one of the weaker Final Fantasy stories, But not weak in itself. If you get me.

Actually i need to correct myself, its not the story thats rubbish, its the characters. I know nothing of any character aside from bach, whos really dull anyway. They seem to have little or no emotion, no backstory whatsoever and no character interaction.

For example, if at the end the usual final fantasy "guy finally gets to kiss the girl" ending took place, i would just find it wierd. Ashe and... Vaan? (I care so little i forget) haven't said more than 2 words to eachother in the whole game yet they seem to be falling in love. The characters are traveling the world together but nobody in the party knows anything about the others or seems to care? weird.

Thats my gripe too, No back story to any of the characters.

Any other Final Fantasy had backgrounds to characters, 12 does mildly. But not enough to add the substance that usually surrounds the Final Fantasy series.
