*****Official Heavenly Sword PSN Demo Thread*****

I was thinking the same, if a demo that lasts a couple of mins is almost 1gb in size, the full game can't be too big can it?

I do want it to be good though because from the short taste the demo gives it does look fantastic.

The engine and assets account for quite a large chunk of the overall filesize. Most demos have the whole shebang included, with the remainder of the filesize going towards maps, weapons, features etc not shown in the demo. You can have the engine be a huge behemoth to fit on discs, but the actual levels and such are usually quite small compared to it. Half Life 2 is a good example of this.

I couldn't tell what the hell i was doing apart from button smashing.....Combo's ain't my thing! :D

Looks good though....Only recently have i seen the hype surrounding this game.....Very promising :)

Just started donloading should be done in about 20 mins. The comparisons so far to God of War alone make me know this is gonna be good.

God of War 1 and 2 were both say 8-10 hours gameplay don't see the problem if this is around the same. GOW had loads of extra modes etc, I'm sure this will have something similar. I genuinely reckon this could be the first "AAA" game for PS3.

More after I play the demo.

Not played it yet still at work ! But its supposed to be on a 50 Gb BD, there is supposed to be quite a lot of replay value to the game as you can replay levels with the new combos, skills etc learnt later in the game. So you can get to items you havent been able to reach before and increase your score for the online leader boards. Remember that in the final game you have the second character who has no melee only a crossbow so the gameplay changes from a god of war style to a more stealthy sniping approach.

Thats good to hear!

Thanks!

Josh

Which one guys I havnt played either and have to say.......the combos are quite hard :o

Heavenly sword or Ninja Gaiden Sigma?

much the same :D just played it round my friends, was really short but looks insane almost tempting me to buy a PS3 would like to learn the combos and how to counter attack etc, but gettin the guy right in the "crown jewels" with that big sword gave me so much amusement :p

Simple answer - both :D

Played the demo, hated the length, loved the game and I've still got GOW2 sitting here virtually unplayed for the last month or so.

Play God of War 2 !!!!!!!

Anyway Demo was amazing apart from the tearing (which someone mentioned is fixed in current builds of the game).
So many combos to learn, I am gonna hammer this tomorrow.
Feels slower than God of War, but maybe that will be changed before release.

Graphics are very impressive. Who says the PS3 can't produce games without jaggies? If there were any they certainly were not obvious like a fair few PS3 games have been so far, will need to check again tomorrow but looked pretty smooth in that respect from my brief play tonight.

I still can't get over HOW SHORT THE DEMO WAS.

Didnt think the PS3 could do HDR with AA ? Oh well looks like they was wrong :p
Anyway developer says the game is about 12-15 hours but that doesnt include doing everything (guess he means replay levels for extras). Well that will do me GOW1+2 was about the same maybe less and they are still some of my favorite games.

I hope they stop doing HDR as its annoying. Or do it subtly.

Only jaggies i noticed were on the flags in the cut scene. I love how you run off the falling pillar and the camera zooms into her face then zooms out while she is bussin a screwface. Looks ard!

September release! Is this in Europe as-well then?

Just finished the demo, quite disapointed to say the least.

Only 720p
Tearing evident
slow frame rate

Perhaps its because I had been playing god of war 2 through to completion at the weekend, or because I had been playing Sigma earlier tonight, but i thought it looked pretty shoddy at the moment, if thats the state of the game when it comes out, ill pass, 60fps should be a requirement for a game like that, slowdown in fights is just not acceptable.

I wouldnt really compare it with God of War 1 or 2, the combat is far more like Ninety Nine Nights on the 360, change through a few stances, kill guys and more guys come, the only thing thats missing is a combo counter.

Really disapointed. :(

My post earlier in thread stated that this was from the gdc build from the start of the year, the e3 build displayed a few weeks ago has fixed the screen tearing, framerate issues and added some new effects. So the demo represents were the game was at the start of the year.

Ive just played the demo and bearing in mind I have been playing ninja gaiden sigma all night, this game feels so slow in comparison. It has potential I`ll give it that. If they have sped it up for the final release and it gets some good reviews I might just pick this up when it arrives.

Oh and OT I didnt know that the ps3 could download in the backround while your playing a game.

I started downloading a couple of hours ago and then put on Shaun of the Dead while I waited, turns out downloads stop when playing a DVD :o
Playing a PS2 game also stops the download, streaming and playing a video file is ok though.

About the game, I guess it is only fun if you know what actions you want and know the buttons to press, for me it was more a case of mashing the buttons and occasionally she would do a move like jump on a guys neck and snap it but it wasn't intentionally.

I also think that it will take a long time to master the combo's and I doubt I have the patience to do that.

I did think it looked great though, shame it is 720p though and if it is an earlier build it can only get better, luckily I am not that sensitive to lower framerates as some other people.

The general opinion now seems to be - dont play sigma before playing this :p

I cant understand why they would put out a ropey slow demo with tearing, its not exactly showing its full potential if thats the case. The gameplay itself looks decent enough, if they fix the graphical problems ill buy it.

Didnt get any tearing myself?

Did anyone else?
