It seems in Fritz the Haswell Core i7 tested is around 10% faster clock for clock than a Core i7 3770K.

Same sorta increase in clock performance between the Sandy and Ivy then.

The only way we will find out is when they are released and tested.

Really want it to be able to do 5ghz without to much hard work. My Sandybridge back in the day did 5ghz (on air) but that was not exactly 100% stable. Ivy was a complete disappointment, and Haswell looks to be heading in Ivy's direction by mainly focusing on power savings rather than performance.

I guess with AMD giving them so much time, they could afford to do that. Back when I got my Q6600, I thought by now we would be on 8 cores 5Ghz

Either way. I will end up getting Haswell and probably end up keeping for a long time. Unless there is a 100% boost in the same price range (£250ish), I probably will not upgrade after that for a long time.

Who needs more power than what Sandy/Ivy/Haswell bring to the table? Remember, these are consumer chips for the masses. If you want more power they make the enthusiast line for people who want utter performance.

I always want more performance! Tell me who does not? lol

As for paying 1k for a CPU?

In the price range I am talking about, there used to be big improvements from generation to generation. But due to the way the market is moving and AMD playing catch up, we are not seeing this anymore.

illuz in theory yes.
Problem is that programers are lazy ..... I am not sure how is NV 3d software working.
But try to play on TriDef amd...
That **** basically uses only 2 cores !!!!
For gaming in 3d in many games i am bottlenecked by my cpu !!!! Sandy@5ghz barely cuts it...
When i see first 2 cores at 99-100% other two at 40% and gpu at 60%. And im stuck in 25-40fps range when playing WoW

But i do QQ on support forums for them to make multi core or 64 bit version....
I hope that Oculus Rift will have some awesome software with it.
If new cpus can hit 5ghz i will buy one for them 15% performance increase over 5ghz sandy.

I like a few on here have a, i7 920 D0 Stepping @ 4Ghz on Nehalem Socket, so it will be 3 generations old when the Haswell comes out. I guessing i dont really need to upgrade but i have the itch and seeings as its been 3 and half years since i got the Nehalem and the rest of my system (bar the GPU) so has served me well.

I have started going a bit of encoding now and would well welcome anything that would speed this process up. Would it really be worth me going Haswell of Ivy-E when released?....which then would be 4 years since i bought the i7 920!!!

Honestly I would wait it out til Broadwell comes, after Haswell. I don't really think you'll need to upgrade. Or go 3930k/Ivy-E

edit// I'm sure setter came from the 920 to 3570k and said his 920 actually performed better in games.
