New MB with 1150 socket should last 3 generations of CPUs so thats ok.
 
So basically does this mean that (assuming Haswell isn't crippled on the IHS front) when overclocking we can expect to get the IB-Haswell % boost AND the missing SB-IB % boost too? If so it suddenly appears more interesting to me :P

Yep, hopefully. Although you can still get most of it with Ivy if you aren't squeamish about deliding. Haswell is looking really interesting though, especially from an overclocking perspective. I just wish there was a mainstream hex-core arriving. I might get mainstream Haswell and then go Haswell-E when it arrives. I'd like a hex now, but I'm not convinced X79 is a good idea this late in the day.

An "admin" user at RedQuasar forum recently posted some benchmarks of Core i5-4570 and Core i7-4770K 4th generation processors, built on Haswell microarchitecture. What makes these benchmarks different from previous authorized and unauthorized Haswell tests is that they involved production versions of CPUs, and not engineering samples. The "admin" user also posted pictures of production i5-4570 and i7-4770K chips with SR14E and SR147 S-spec numbers.

But also:

The "admin" user also ran tests on Core i7-3770K, and made an attempt to run them on Core i7-4770K, overclocked to 4.5 GHz. Overclocked 4770K, even with water cooling, was not stable enough to complete Cinebench 11.5, and running more CPU intensive benchmarks like Prime95 was out of the question. It seems that, like their Ivy Bridge predecessors, Haswell CPUs exhibit the same problem operating at high or very high temperatures when overclocked.

I think it's too early to make any conclusion. Maybe the chips he got aren't very efficient. There was report of another i7-4770k hitting 7.01Ghz which was posted couple of posts back.

Once the Haswell is released and benched by fellow overclockers on this forum, then we can draw meaningful conclusion about Haswell performance, especially in comparison to Ivy. :)
 
well if any of that is true ubersonic seems like it will just be a waste of time on the whole and those with sandy will stop on that those on ivy will hold back aswell.

cant see it doing well tbh. also summer is always worst time of year for sales of computer stuff.
 
if they use cheap paste again it'll be a big disaster

The cheap TIM will be fine for running at stock
Enthusiasts will have to de lid.

Forget that LN2 cooled WOW it does 7 Gigs nonsense.
You couldn't use it for anything useful at that speed unless SP 1M floats your boat.

The review of the retail chips is close to the mark I feel.
Crappy thermals and only a small IPC bump over IVY.

Is it because soldering IHS is more costly? Could it be that Intel is indirectly encouraging enthusiasts to spend more money on getting the more expensive 2011 platform, if they want everything unleashed!! lol ?

The was a report after IB came out that hypothesized that IB couldn't physically withstand as much long term voltage through it as Sandy, and so Intel had used the TIM to create an artificial "heat barrier" to prevent people being able to take the chips to the voltage level that would result in exponential degradation, nothing was ever proven though I don't think.
 
Looking to build a new computer based on haswell . I have everything except the motherboard and cpu ( obviously )

Will i be able to get a 4770k cpu and motherboard for around £550 you think ?
