***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

OEM chips sound awful and cost nearly as much as the good ones from OCUK. Makes me wonder if they open retail and work on % of success and the lose of the 'new' OEM chips.

No.

A new chip is a new chip, regardless of whether it is RETAIL or OEM. It will not have been used before. OCuk care plenty about their reputation, I'm sure, and this sort of thing would put them in a lot of trouble.

They probably get OEMs for their system builds, bin them and allocated them across the system builds based on performance.

I wish i could buy 3770 that can do 5ghz on water.
I would stick to my motherboard then.......

lnoton mate i am cpu bound with sandy at 5ghz in 3d gaming....
Thats why i cant wait for proper tests. If it does 5ghz or more on water i am buying one instant.... If not then o well gotta live with 23fps in some games :/ Even if i would buy freeking Titan i would still have 23fps cause 2 cores are on 100% and other are at 60-70 while gaming and gpu load 56%.......

My i7 3820 is running at 4.875 and I don't think i've seen it max out yet in BF3 MP, Crysis 3 or Civ 5 large maps.

I don't play WoW though.

In WoW and Swtor. I had 3570k for few weeks but it was not good clocker 4.5 was max i could do on it :/ so went back to Sandy

I would have thought your lone 7950 would be your limiting factor still...but I suppose it is all about the CPU in those games, not the pixels.

Ill post some screenshots when i get back from work :P

When you got 25 players blowing all those AOE attacks on lets say 20 monsters at once on your screen LOADS of calculations required.
Going from phenom 6 core @4.3 to sandy 5ghz gave me 12 fps cause. I had 3-5fps sometimes on my phenom with 5% gpu load :/

Hey, I believe...no reason not to. Just didn't think they were that! CPU intensive.

I am sure this would change dramatically if these pretested chips where 4.8ghz-5ghz with 2800IMC. If I put my two LN2 benching 3770K CPU that do 5.2ghz air with DDR2800 on members market they would sell within 5 mins.

and be delidded in 10mins :D

Seriously though if OCuk offered a more aggressive range of pre-tested parts/bundles/systems I think that would distinquish itself from other retailers. Clearly 5Ghz is the physiological barrier for many given the past performance of SB.

Whilst you are perfectly correct to point out the benefits of Stong CPUs and silicon, I personally think you are wrong to apply those benefits to retail customers if they can't get their hands on them not being is a position to pick and choose.

+1. This may change though. We can hope.

What resolution you running? and are you set to use the DX11 engine and 64bit client? If you use recount you can get a big FPS boost by deleting it.

I ask because I have a i7 3820 clocked at 4.5GHz (which for WoW purposes is obviously inferior to a 5GHz 2500K), a GTX670 FTW (previously a HD7950B), and play at 2560x1080. And I am running with everthing on maximum including AA and yet don't have any problem, 10m is silky smooth and and although FPS drops in 25m with all the shinies flying its never enough to make me take note.

I did LFR P3 last night which is the most GFX intensive part and had no issues.

They can get there hands on them. Buy and test, buy and test. As I did before I worked at OCUK. I was top ten world wide bencher before OCUK days and binned chips myself by buying.

Does anyone know if current third-party heatsinks will work with Haswell, or are we going to need new ones with totally new mounting systems?
